It’s March already. Without a doubt, Tanjong Pagar is getting more exciting with many new restaurant and cafes opening there, so you will expect a few mentions on that area.

In case you missed it, here are some other cafe listicles for your reference:

K. Patisserie
Onze @ Tanjong Pagar, 11 Kee Seng Street, #01-07, Singapore 089218
Opening Hours: 1pm – 6:30pm (Thurs), 1pm – 8pm (Fri – Sat), 1pm – 6:30pm (Sun), Closed Mon – Wed

Dusty-Pink Desserts Cafe With Pulut Hitam Cake And Speculoos Cheesecake
K. Patisserie is the newest addition to the Tanjong Pagar area, located right within the building in one corner.

All their pastries are made in house, with a small selection of pastries such as Passionfruit Meringue Tart ($8), 70% Dark Chocolate Tart ($8), Chocolate Espresso ($8.50), Chocolate Praline ($9).

Interesting flavours include Speculoos Cheesecake ($8) and Pulut Hitam Cake ($8.50) which are more unique and less commonly seen in other cafes.

My favourite is the Speculoos Cheesecake ($8), topped with biscoff crumbles, speculoos drizzle on top of a layer of cream cheesecake, with a lotus biscoff cookie base.

The overall texture of the cheesecake is smooth and creamy with distinctive buttery notes.

SweeT.Rex
International Plaza 01-11, 10 Anson Road, Singapore 079903
Opening Hours: 12pm – 7pm (Mon – Fri), Closed Sat, Sun

Wobbly Souffle Pancakes At Tanjong Pagar From $9.80
SweeT.Rex which is known for its affordable $5 Souffle Pancakes at Alexandra Village Food Centre has opened a café concept outlet at International Plaza (facing Guoco Tower).

The Classic Souffle Pancakes is at a higher price of $9.80 now, but they have upgraded the ingredients and now comes served in a plate (instead of a box).

There is an expanded menu with offerings of five different Souffle Pancakes – Classic ($9.80), Oreo Chocolate ($12.80), Banana Caramel ($13.80), Matcha ($13.80) and $14.80.

Note that as pancakes are only prepared upon ordering, the minimum wait-time is about 20 minutes.

For the Classic, I enjoyed that the texture was indeed pillow-soft and not too sweet. Some may find this on the airier side and something eggy flavour, but the fresh custard cream helped made the taste not so ‘monotonous’.

Birds of Paradise Gelato Boutique – Tanjong Pagar
53 Craig Rd, #01-01, Singapore 089691
Opening Hours: 12pm – 9:30pm (Tues – Sun), Closed Mon

Tanjong Pagar Outlet With Botanical Gelato And Crisp Thyme Cones
Wait, another new café at Tanjong Pagar? The newest to be opened is a familiar name to many – Birds of Paradise which has finally opened an outlet closer to the central area.

Birds of Paradise is so named because the shop creates gelato inspired by the botanical flavours of nature.

BOP flavours you can expect include White Chrysanthemum, Midnight Gianduja, Lychee Raspberry, Pistachio, Strawberry Basil, Sea-Salt Hojicha, Roasted Sesame, Dark Chocolate Sorbet, Hazelnut, Earl Grey & Lemongrass, and Mango Sorbet.

Compared to the East Coast outlet where the thyme cone is made within the same counter, there is now a separate room so that the smell doesn’t linger everywhere.

There are also some seats at the back. Not many, say about for four or five pax, but better than nothing?

The Food Peeps Coffee & Deli
34 Sago Street, Singapore 059026
Opening Hours: 8am – 5pm (Mon – Tues, Thurs – Sun), Closed Wed

Under-The-Radar Brunch Café At Chinatown
This humble cafe previously located at Maxwell House has shifted to Chinatown, next to the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple and Museum.

Apart from the expansion in space, the cafe has also undergone a change in colour tone, a distinctive green added to the previous pink colour used.

In the sandwich department, there are some creative items such as Hong Kong Breakfast Bagelwich ($12), Halloumi & Avocado Bagelwich ($12) and Spicy Prawn Burger ($15).

Their Brunch menu, on the other hand, has more than just sourdough toasts, with interesting options such as Big Breakfast Club ($18), Omelette “Crepe” ($15), 3-Cheese Rosemary Waffle ($14) and Hangover Pancake ($15).

The Omelette “Crepe” ($15) caught my attention. It was a thin crepe-like omelette with wilted spinach, creamy avocado, multigrain toast and a choice of smoked salmon or mushrooms added on top.

99 Old Trees
1 Teo Hong Road, Singapore 088321
Opening Hours: 12pm – 9pm (Mon -Sun)

Durian-Specialty Shop With Durian Chendol And Durian Swiss Roll
From Owen Road to Chinatown, 99 Old Trees has shifted to their new premise right outside Outram Part Exit H. at Teo Hong Road.

Apart from their range of fresh durians, 99 Old Trees also offers homemade desserts under the ‘Stinky’ brand on the menu, all created by in-house pastry chefs.

These include the Stinky Bowl ($5.50), Stinky Chendul ($3) and Stinky Scoop ($28 per pint).

The Stinky Bowl ($5.50) remains my favourite, made from 100% pure D24 durian pulp with a light, smooth and creamy mousse texture.

For the durian lovers, you won’t regret topping up $1.50 for an extra D24 durian puree which adds the extra oomph.

Rookie’s Coffee Shop
124 Bukit Merah Lane 1, #01-144, Singapore 150124
Opening Hours: 8am – 5pm (Tues – Sun), Closed Mon

Artisanal Coffee Shop At Bukit Merah Lane 1, Near Alexandra Village
Owner and barista of Rookie’s Coffee Shop Junior who was previously from Kurasu, mentioned that this area (nearer to the Queensway side) used to be his favourite hang-out place during Singapore Poly days, and therefore has nostalgic value, and he sees potential in the neighbourhood.

The Rookie’s menu is kept lean, with offerings of White ($5), Black ($4.50), Chocolate ($5.50), Aeropress ($6, $6.50), with iced and oat milk options at a dollar extra.

The espresso-based coffee beans are currently sourced from Little Big Coffee Roasters (at Biopolis), with mellow acidity and tropical fruity and orange notes. I would say it is medium-bodied and balanced.

The focus of Rookie’s is still on coffee, and therefore the food choices are kept limited to a tangy and pretty delicious-sour Lemon Bar ($5) and Chocolate Chip Cookie ($3.50).

Zerah Coffee Roasters
465 North Bridge Road, #02-5063, Singapore 191465
Opening Hours: 9:30am – 5pm (Tues – Sat)< Closed Mon, Sun

Hidden Minimalist Coffee Specialty Cafe Roastery At Lavender
From a home micro-roastery to a brick-and-mortar café, Zerah Coffee Roasters has quietly joined the Lavender neighbourhood. (Also read: 10 LAVENDER Cafes for Brunch & Coffee)

Even if you reach North Bridge Road, Zerah Coffee Roasters is still slightly off the radar as they are located on the 2nd storey.

Using a single origin of Ethiopia for their Espresso ($4) and Black ($4.50), the cup has notes of lemon, grapefruit and elderflower.

My cup of White ($5.50) is a single origin of Colombia, smooth, medium bodied, robust with a distinctive sweetness of brown sugar, and a citrusy body of plum and cherry.

Serious coffee drinkers can check out their Filter with single origins from Ethiopia ($7), El Salvador ($7.50) and Colombia ($8).

Icebar
1 Selegie Rd, #02-04 GR.ID, Singapore 188306
Opening Hours: 12pm – 11pm (Mon – Thurs), 12pm – 2am (Fri – Sun)

Neon Light Themed Gelato Cafe Near Dhoby Ghaut Opens Till 2AM Weekends
From their first outlet at Hougang Green Shopping Mall, Icebar has opened their latest branch at GR.iD along Selegie Road, previously known as POMO, and now has a striking orange-red Tetris-design.

Apart from their expanded selection of gelato and specialty coffee on the menu, one thing remains, which is the use of bright neon lights in their dark and moody 26-seater space.

16 gelato flavours (Classic $4.50, Premium $5.50, Super Premium $6.50) are available on the shelves, with unique ones such as Chrysanthemuum, Grape Yakult, Wang Zai, Binggrae Melon and Binggrae Banana.

PAZZION Café – Takashimaya Shopping Centre
391 Orchard Road Takashimaya Shopping Centre, Ngee Ann City, B1-39/40, Singapore 238872
Opening Hours: 9am – 10pm (Mon – Sun)

Takashimaya Lifestyle Cafe With Brunch, Pasta and French Toast
PAZZION Café joins in the Orchard Road cafes pack, but can it stand out from the competition?

The café which is called a “urban rustic haven” is designed in monochromatic tones of black and white, peppered with grey and gold to complement the retail boutique.

The brunch menu is available till 3pm, featuring items such as Bacon Eggs Waffles ($18), B.E.L.T Burger ($20), Salmon Avocado Toast ($20), Sauteed Mushroom Toast ($18), and Royal Pastrami Bagel Sandwich ($18).

Two things to note: vegetarians and vegans can find a couple of food choices here, and cage-free organic eggs are incorporated in their egg dishes.
