From their first outlet at Hougang Green Shopping Mall, Icebar has opened their latest branch at GR.iD along Selegie Road, previously known as POMO, and now has a striking orange-red Tetris-design.
Apart from their expanded selection of gelato and specialty coffee on the menu, one thing remains, which is the use of bright neon lights in their dark and moody 26-seater space.
The most instagram-worthy spot is at the sofa seats, with hanging poker cards and mahjong tiles neon lights for the perfect #OOTD shot.
The space is also lined with claw machines where diners will receive tokens for every purchase made in the cafe.
16 gelato flavours (Classic $4.50, Premium $5.50, Super Premium $6.50) are available on the shelves, with unique ones such as Chrysanthemuum, Grape Yakult, Wang Zai, Binggrae Melon and Binggrae Banana.
2 different types of waffles are available: Original ($5.80) and Charcoal ($6.90) and each comes with complimentary Maple, Caramel or Chocolate sauce.
The charcoal waffle has a good balance of crispy texture on the outside and a moist with fluffy texture on the inside.
My favourite gelato flavour is the Grape Yakult, light and refreshing with distinctive fruity and citrusy grape notes.
I guessed it would have a fuller body with a more creamy texture if it’s yogurt-based instead.
The Wang Zai gelato came as a surprise, a childhood snack that I grew up eating, is now in the form of a gelato.
Topped with bits of Wang Zai milk biscuits (sometimes known as “Want Want Milk”) for the additional crunch, the gelato has a soy milk taste to it, with subtle sweetness just like the snack itself.
Specialty coffee starts from $3.50 for a cup of Espresso, with other selections such as Americano ($4.50), Latte ($5.50), Vanilla Latte ($6.50) and Caramel Latte ($6.50).
Non espresso-based drinks include Tea (Hot $5, Iced $5.50) or Milkshake using their Gelato ($7 – $9).
Opens till 2am from Fridays till Sundays, Icebar is an ideal place for the supper crowd looking for some post-meal desserts.
