Banthat Thong Road is the place to be for the younger crowd in Bangkok right now.
Since it is right next to Chulalongkorn University, you will always see students and young people hanging out and looking for the next big food trend.
This street has a reputation for its massive variety of sweets, and you will find a dessert shop on almost every corner (somehow makes me feel young again).
June Pang is one of the most popular names there, and I kept seeing it on Instagram.
It is located right in the middle of the action and stays open until midnight or 1am (from Fridays to Sundays), so it is often the last stop on a food crawl.
It can be packed, so be prepared to wait for a table during the busy evening hours.
The menu is all about butter toast, buns, and cold drinks.
The signature toasts include Pandan Custard Toast with Coconut Milk Ice Cream (THB 159), Caramel Toast with Hokkaido Ice Cream (THB 139), Banana Nutella Toast (THB 129), Strawberry Cream Crumble Toast (THB 139), and Blueberry Crumble Toast (THB 129).
You can also get smaller things like Steamed Toast with Pandan and Thai Tea Custards (THB 69), Shiopan (THB 69), or savoury buns like Chili Jam Chicken Floss with Thai Salad Mayo (THB 79).
Of course I had to order the star item Pandan Custard Toast with Coconut Milk Ice Cream (THB 159).
The toast was relatively thick and had a strong, salty butter flavour that worked well with the sweet toppings.
It actually reminded me a liiiiitle of the honey toast at After You, just with a softer take.
I liked the pandan custard because it had a natural aroma and did not taste artificial. The cold coconut milk ice cream gave a nice contrast to the warm bread, and the crumbles on top added a bit of crunch.
The sweetness was okay, but it might be a bit much if you are eating it by yourself. I would recommend sharing with friends so you can try more flavours without getting sweetness overload.
For drinks, they have Fresh Milk Slushy (THB 69), Cocoa Mint (THB 50), and various sodas for around THB 45 to THB 55.
I would go back to try the Strawberry Mochi Red Bean or maybe the Caramel toast with Hokkaido Ice Cream next time. Good choice for a sugar fix in a part of town that clearly belongs to the youths.
