After months behind hoarding, ABC Brickworks Market & Food Centre is back in action.
The familiar hawker centre was closed for Repairs and Redecoration works, and now looks brighter and cleaner, with fresh flooring, stronger lighting, repainted sections, and orange ceiling beams.
Fun fact: it is said to be named after “Archipelago Brewery Company”, Singapore’s first commercial brewery; or “Alexandra Brickworks Company”.
It is also a place that has built up a strong food reputation over the years, with stalls such as Fatty Cheong, Wow Wow West, Jason Penang Cuisine, Ah Er Soup, Jin Jin Dessert and other familiar names drawing regulars back.
Of course, a reopening also comes with some changes, and I noticed that Bao Zai and Kine Burgers were no longer around during my visit.

Still, the centre felt lively again, with lunch crowds slowly filling the tables and regulars checking back on the stalls they remember.
Here are some of the stalls you can try at ABC Brickworks Food Centre:

Ah Er Soup 阿2老火汤

Another signature is the Ten Tonic Ginseng Chicken Soup, delivering a strong herbal taste complemented by a chicken drumstick that is soft to the bone.

The stall is run by Penang-born Jason Khaw, who spent 14 years as the British High Commissioner’s Resident Chef before bringing his culinary expertise to the hawker centre.
His specialty Assam Laksa delivers a rich, citrusy broth with a layered tangy-spiciness, accompanied by mint leaves and chilli padi.
The Penang Prawn Noodle Soup follows a traditional recipe with a robust, aromatic broth simmered from prawn shells and spices, offering a deeper flavour than the sweeter local versions.

The Chicken Chop features grilled thigh meat drenched in a peppery brown gravy, while the Fish & Chips is accompanied by a distinctive pink tartare sauce.
Every signature plate includes a side of thick-cut golden fries, coleslaw, and baked beans.

The stall is best known for its Mee Sua Vermicelli, a traditional dish featuring thin, silky strands in a thick, cloudy broth with minced pork and prawns.

MICHELIN-Selected Bak Chor Mee with Three ‘Fragrances’
Newly listed in the MICHELIN Guide Singapore, San Xiang Bak Chor Mee 叁香肉脞面 offers its signature ‘three fragrances’ representing the noodle, taste, and colour.
Every serving comes loaded with minced pork, bouncy meatballs, clean-tasting fishballs, and liver.
Departing from the traditional Teochew style, these noodles arrive swimming in a pool of chilli-heavy sauce, notably lacking the sharp vinegar tang or sweetness found elsewhere.
While the bowl appears fiery, the sambal spice is full-bodied yet manageable, perfectly coating the firm, springy mee kia.

Traditional Charcoal-Fired Claypot Rice and Double-Boiled Soups
A veteran establishment at ABC Brickworks Food Centre, Yuan Yuan Claypot Rice 源源砂煲饭 is recognised for its traditional charcoal-fired cooking method.
The rice is cooked from scratch in individual claypots, resulting in a smoky aroma and a characteristic layer of crispy charred rice at the base.
Each portion includes marinated chicken chunks, slices of Chinese sausage, and salted fish, finished with a generous drizzle of dark soy sauce and oil.
To complement the rice, the stall prepares various double-boiled soups such as Watercress Pork Rib Soup, Old Cucumber Soup, and Lotus Root Pork Rib Soup.

Opening Hours: 11am – 7pm (Mon – Wed, Fri – Sun), Closed Thu
Charcoal-Roasted Char Siew Using ‘Bu Jian Tian’ Cut
Fatty Cheong 肥仔详 roasts its offerings using traditional charcoal methods to achieve a distinct depth of flavour.
The stall specifically utilises the tender ‘bu jian tian’ underarm cut, which provides a balanced lean meat-to-fat ratio that maintains juiciness during the roasting process.
Each thick slice is marinated overnight in a blend of oyster sauce, bean paste, and rice wine before being basted to produce a sweet, succulent finish with heavy caramelisation.

Long Running Stall For Wanton Mee, Laksa And Chicken Feet Noodles
Swee Kee Wanton Noodles 瑞记云吞面 is one of the older noodle stalls that has quietly kept its regulars over the years.
Other than Wanton Noodles, it also serves Laksa, Wanton Soup, Shredded Chicken Mushroom Noodle and Chicken Feet Noodle.
The noodles had a familiar texture, slightly springy with enough bite, while the dark sauce leaned sweet and savoury without making the bowl too wet.
It still has its place for those who miss the Wanton Mee taste they grew up with.
Soon Huat Teochew Satay Beehoon 顺发潮州沙爹米粉
ABC Brickworks Food Centre #01-140
Opening Hours: 4pm – 9pm (Tues – Sun), Closed Mon
Heritage Teochew Satay Bee Hoon with Nutty Sauce
Soon Huat Teochew Satay Beehoon at ABC Brickworks Food Centre is known for its thick, peanut-based satay sauce.

Affordable Chicken Rice And Roast Meat Plates From $3.50
The stall has its regulars, with an affordable menu that includes Chicken Rice from $3.50, Char Siew Rice, Roast Meat Rice, Roast Duck Rice and several mix and match combinations. So sffordable.
I went for the 3-in-1 plate with chicken, char siew and roast pork over rice.
The chicken was smooth and tender enough in an old school roast chicken style, while the char siew was the part I enjoyed most, with chunky pieces, a sweet savoury glaze and some caramelised edges.
Leng Kee Fish Soup 龍記
ABC Brickworks Food Centre #01-41
Opening Hours: 11:30am – 1:30pm, 5:30pm – 7:30pm (Tues – Wed, Fri – Sat), Closed Mon, Thurs, Sun
Light And Clean Tasting Sliced Fish Soup
Leng Kee Fish Soup is one of those stalls to consider when you want something lighter, though it is not the easiest to catch.
It opens for limited hours and selected days of the week, and there is usually a line.
The stall serves Batang Fish Soup, Seafood Soup, Fish Maw Soup, Seafood Fish Head Noodle and Sliced Fish Bee Hoon, with most bowls priced around $5 to $8.
I ordered the Sliced Fish Soup with rice, which came in a clear, light broth with thick fish slices, lettuce, tomato and fried garlic bits.
The soup was clean tasting and gently sweet without being too heavy, while the fish slices were thick, fresh and firm enough without turning tough.
Zhen De Hao 蒸得好
ABC Brickworks Food Centre #01-108
Opening Hours: 11:30am – 2:30pm, 5pm – 8pm (Mon – Fri, Sun), Closed Sat
Homestyle Steamed Dishes and Nourishing Cantonese Soups
Steamed food stalls are less common in hawker centres, but Zhen De Hao 蒸得好 maintains a focus on simple steamed dishes and Cantonese-style soups.
The name is a clever play on a phrase that translates to “really good,” and the stall attracts consistently long lines for its gentle and familiar flavours.
The Steamed Mushroom, Sausage, Chicken is a proper old-school combination where tender chicken and Chinese sausage provide a distinct sweet-salty kick.

Project Thunder Bowl offers its own spin on the dish with fresh ingredients including cabbage, choy sum, French beans, tofu, and leek.
The Lei Cha soup is thinner and milder, lacking intense herbal bitterness, which makes it an approachable entry point for those new to the dish.
For a more substantial meal, sides such as Hakka Yong Tau Foo and handmade wuxiang are available to complement the herbaceous bowl.

Heng Kee Hainanese Curry Rice, formerly located at Hoy Fatt Road, has relocated to ABC Brickworks Food Centre.
Run by a single veteran hawker who handles everything from chopping meat to drenching rice in gravy, the stall offers a fast and efficient no-frills experience.
The signature curry is thick with a particular spice profile reminiscent of Indian style curries, intended to be doused generously over every component.
The recommended items are the crispy pork chop, deep fried until golden and crunchy, and the thick, juicy pork patty which remains soft on the inside.

The Bowl Story
ABC Brickworks Food Centre #01-04
Opening Hours: 11:45am – 7pm or sold out (Mon – Sat), Closed Sun
Comforting Japanese Rice Bowls and Homely Curry Katsu
It is quite unexpected to find Japanese rice bowls prepared by a former car salesman, yet The Bowl Story has established itself through value.
The stall offers a clear selection of comforting donburi such as Pork Katsu Don and Chicken Katsu Curry, where each serving is accompanied by an onsen egg, pickles, and miso soup.
For the curry options, the gravy is mild and homely, thickened with potatoes and carrots to create a familiar Japanese style stew.

MICHELIN-Listed Murtabak and Fiery Fried Noodles
Listed in the MICHELIN Guide with a MICHELIN Selected for consecutive years, Y.R.A Rasool Fatimah serves a variety of Indian-Muslim specialities ranging from mutton soup to its signature murtabak.
Unlike conventional versions with crispy exteriors, the murtabak here leans toward a softer, doughier, and eggier texture, often kept on the grill for extended periods to ensure the filling remains piping hot.
The stall also offers fried noodle and rice dishes like Maggie Goreng, with a sharp level of spice.

Tian Tian You Yu 天天有鱼
ABC Brickworks Food Centre #01-142
Opening Hours: 11:30am – 9:30pm (Mon – Sun)
Steamed Seafood and Red Grouper with Customisable Sauces
Tian Tian You Yu 天天有鱼 has seen rapid expansion by offering straightforward seafood at an accessible price point.
The Steamed Red Grouper features tender, naturally sweet flesh without any muddy taste, even if the garlic topping remains subtle rather than impactful.
While the mixed Steamed Seafood is cooked without being rubbery, the accompanying black bean sauce carries a heavy saltiness that can dominate the lighter flavours of the prawns and lala.
The stall’s primary draw lies in its value and simplicity, providing an honest meal despite some inconsistencies.

The stall is best known for its Power Chendol, which features a thick, viscous Gula Melaka syrup specially sourced from Malacca, poured over finely shaved ice and fresh ingredients.
Another popular choice is the “Liu Mang Bing” aka Gangster Ice, a combination of mango shaved ice topped with a generous scoop of real durian puree and fresh mango cubes.
Cha Mulan 茶木兰
ABC Brickworks Food Centre #01-20
Opening Hours: 11am – 8:30pm (Mon – Sun)
Herbal Infusions and Traditional Ingredients in a Refreshing Brew
Not your usual Bubble Tea. Cha Mulan 茶木兰 offers a refreshing blend of traditional Chinese ingredients and modern tea culture within a hawker stall environment.
Each beverage features components such as snow fungus, peach gum, and red dates, providing a refreshing alternative to standard bubble tea.
The Radiant Mulan consists of peach gum, silky snow fungus, and ruby goji berries, offering a smooth texture with a light chewiness in every sip. I like that it’s not too sweet.
