I was curious about the name of this café at first. 25/30 by Qyl’s Coffee?
So, the numbers 25/30 refer to the ideal seconds taken to extract a shot of espresso. It is a nod to the precision they aim for in every cup.
The “Qyl” in the name is a play on the name Aqil, the founder.
You can find the coffee shop at Block 3 Everton Park, where it shares space with Kekito Bakery.
(Everton Park has always been a competitive spot for cafes. Very charming, always something interesting to discover there.)
The interior is small and functional. It features a long stainless steel counter with green camping chairs and black folding tables on the outside.
If it is not too warm, I like sitting outdoors because it captures the quiet, breezy atmosphere of Everton Park.
Because it stays open until 10:30pm on many nights (Fridays to Sundays, according to Google), it is one of the few places in the area where you can get a late-night caffeine fix.
The beverage list is divided into modern speciality drinks and local traditional brews.
Speciality options include White ($4.50 hot, $5.00 cold), Black ($4.00 hot, $4.50 cold), Mocha ($5.50 hot, $6.00 cold), Spanish Latte ($5.50 hot, $6.00 cold), Dirty Chai ($6.00 hot, $6.50 cold), Coconut Latte ($5.50 hot, $6.00 cold), and Peach Espresso ($6.50 cold).
They also serve non-coffee items like Chocolate ($5.50), Hojicha ($6.00), Iced Peach Matcha ($6.50), and Iced Strawberry Matcha ($6.50).
The speciality coffee here uses Brazil Santos Maritaca beans roasted by Generation Coffee Roasters, partly because the owner used to be a barista with them.
I had a White coffee and found it to be very approachable.
The texture was creamy, smooth and balanced. I enjoyed the distinct notes of toasted nuts and milk chocolate that came through as the drink cooled.
There was a very faint hint of berry at the end, which added a bit of brightness without being sour.
While the seating is simple, I personally think the late opening hours are a huge plus for the neighbourhood.
