Finding a cheap cup of artisanal coffee in the CBD is often difficult.
Most specialty cafes in Singapore charge $6 to $7 for a latte, and prices are surely creeping up.
I happened to chance upon Kafey Haus at Icon Village Tanjong Pagar, which offers a slightly different experience for office workers.
The takeaway shop has a simple, modern look, with white walls and a silver counter. Almost like a science lab?
The most striking thing is the price list. An Americano costs only $2. An Iced Latte is at $3.
And while many places charge extra for ice, Kafey Haus keeps the price the same for hot and cold versions.
Next thing I noticed was the sleek metal taps that rise from the surface, which is actually the dispenser for the coffee.
This automated system ensures the drinks come out quickly, and feels very efficient for the morning rush.
To be fair, the Iced Americano was not too bad at all. It had a dark roast profile with a bitter finish, though did not have the distinct fruitiness of some specialty beans.
The ‘barista’ asked for feedback, as they are still calibrating and fine-tuning the coffee’s strength based on customer input.
For those who want something unique, a Coconut Cacao ($4.50) is also available served cold brew style.
Some people might find the taste a bit plain compared to high-end roasters, but Kafey Haus clearly focuses on speed and value.
A practical choice for a daily coffee fix, and perhaps worth a quick visit if you are in the area.
Side note: Kafeyhaus has also opened at Staytion @ Paya Lebar MRT and Staytion @ Marsiling MRT.
From 4 to 6 May, it is offering an opening promotion of $1 Americano and $2 Latte. This can be a convenient stop for commuters looking for a quick and affordable coffee near the MRT.
