Fans of Misato at The Centrepoint may want to make a return visit soon.

The Japanese restaurant has announced that it will be closing sometime in April, after being affected by The Centrepoint’s redevelopment plans and having its lease pre-terminated in the process.

In a reel shared by founder Tony Young, he thanked customers for their support over the years and encouraged diners to come by before the restaurant closes.

That said, this may not be the end of the road.

When asked if Misato would be closing for good, the reply was to “look out for the next reel”, which seems to suggest a possible move instead.

Misato The Centrepoint

For those who have been eating there for years, Misato has always been one of those slightly hidden Orchard gems.

One that built a following quietly with dependable Japanese food, eye-catching presentation, and desserts.

I first wrote about Misato years ago, and what stood out then was how much pride went into both the food and presentation.

Food-wise there is the A5 Ohmi Wagyu Hoba Miso Yaki ($68.80), still one of the most recommended items on the menu, served on hoba leaf with mushrooms and Misato’s secret miso mixture.

The Okonomiyaki ($19.90) is also available, made with high-quality Japanese yam with crunchy Japanese cabbage in its fillings.

This is alongside comforting set meals such as Chicken Katsu Set, Tonkatsu Set using kurobuta black pig, and Mixed Fried Set.

Other side dishes and smaller plates include Tamagoyaki, Edamame, Chawanmushi, Yakitori Set, Tebasaki Chicken Wings, Premium Miso Soup and Hokkaido Corn Cream Soup.

If you are making one last trip down, I would still say the same thing I did years ago: don’t miss out on the desserts.

The current menu still includes several of Misato’s better-known sweet items, and these are what continue to set the restaurant apart.

The Matcha Bavarois ($11.90) and Goma Bavarois ($10.90) are also still available, and these have long been among Misato’s most recognisable creations.

Smooth, lightly wobbly, and almost pudding-like, these are the sort of desserts that look good on camera but taste even better.

Misato Gyoza

Whether this is a goodbye or simply a relocation, Misato’s chapter at The Centrepoint is coming to a close.

And before it does, there is still time for one more bowl of soba, one more plate of its handmade gyoza, and definitely one more dessert.
