Seoul is full of striking cafés and Instagram-friendly spots.
But Leedorim 이도림 offers more than just looks. It tries to bind history, nature, and craft in one space.
From the moment you step inside, you feel that there is intention behind nearly every feature.
The café is housed in a multi-storey building near Gyeongbokgung, on Jahamun-ro. It uses three floors plus a rooftop.
I mean, I’ve seen many photos and videos featuring Leedorim 이도림 on Instagram, but nothing really beats seeing it live in person (so much so that I went twice in a single week).
From the street, you see its tall glass façade and modern lines.
Inside, a dramatic vertical installation greets you: a mossy rock structure that reaches up through floors, with water trickling over it.
This becomes a visual anchor, a metaphorical mountain amid wood, glass, and greenery.
The sound, the peace, the calm, the quietness… (even though it can be pretty filled)
On the menu, Leedorim presents both bakery and coffee offerings, and includes vegan options.
Their bakery (in collaboration with VAKE) lists items like walnut red bean buns, tangerine pastries, ciabatta jambon beurre, lemon and blueberry kouign-amann, and a canelé named Inwangsan canelé.
What interested me most was the concept behind Leedorim.
The café explicitly ties itself to King Sejong (Yi Do). Its name combines “Yi Do” and “lim” (forest) to evoke a forest of Yi Do, or a place rooted in the king’s memory.
The operators even designed the interior to reflect historical and natural motifs.
You can walk through a “Time Loop” corridor with circles aligned in sequence to evoke progression through eras.
And the rooftop gives a view of Inwangsan and Bugaksan, preserving the link to the surrounding hillsides.
The CEO says the aim was to revive the aura of the site, to honour the fact that this area is the birthplace of Sejong.
At times the mood risks feeling more staged, but it is a pretty place.
Do let the experience build quietly, one floor at a time.
