[Seoul] While searching for the best coffee in Hongdae, I found myself headed to Millo Coffee Roasters 밀로커피.
At first glance, it looks like just another minimalist café in a university town packed with them.
But stay a little longer, sip a little slower, and it starts to show its difference.
Clean white walls, warm wood, and soft light give it a calm, grounded feel.
It’s the kind of place where you slow down. And if you’re anything like me, sometimes that’s exactly what you need.
Millo first opened its doors back in 2002 near Seoul National University. Over a decade later, it made its move to Hongdae, and quietly built a reputation for doing things the right way.
No gimmicks. Just good coffee.
The name “Millo” comes from the Hebrew word meaning “to fill”.
On the wall inside, there’s a message, “Here, I hope to fill my heart with something that brightens it.”
The coffee menu at Millo Coffee Roasters covers all the essentials with a few house favourites. You’ll find Filter Coffee (7,000 Won), Espresso (4,500 Won), Americano (5,000 Won), Latte and Flat White (5,500 Won each), Vanilla Latte and Cappuccino (6,000 Won each), and Con Panna (5,500 Won).
Their signature is the Montblanc topped with whipped cream (7,000 Won).
They do serve pastries such as madeleines in various flavours.
I had a madeleine. Soft, slightly crisp on the outside. Nothing mind-blowing, but it went well with the coffee.
Millo doesn’t chase trends.
It stays true to itself as a quiet, quality-first café that roasts its own beans and does them justice, right in the middle of lively Hongdae.
