Bugis is getting more exciting with many new openings lately. These include the floral cafe Bloom & Boom and Sticks & Stones at Bugis+.
And one of the most anticipated arrivals is Yang’s Dumplings 小杨生煎, soon to arrive at the basement of Bugis Junction in April 2026.
This famous brand from Shanghai is finally opening its first Singapore outlet (Many food lovers who have travelled to Shanghai will likely recognise the name.)
Yang’s Dumplings 小杨生煎 has a long history that started in 1994, which began as a small stall on Wujiang Road in Shanghai.
The founder, Yang Lipeng, used a simple stove to cook these pan-fried buns. Over the years, it grew from a humble street snack into a massive chain with hundreds of branches across China.
It is now definitely one of the most well-known brands for Sheng Jian Bao.
Some may confuse Sheng Jian Bao with the more commonly known Xiao Long Bao.
The buns are cooked in large flat pans until the bottom becomes golden and very crunchy.
The top part of the bun is steamed and soft, while the inside contains moist meat fillings and hot soup.
When I first tried Yang’s Dumpling in Shanghai, I remember biting into the piping hot bun only to have a some amount of soup splash out (so be careful).
What’s special about Yang’s? I remember it having a much crispier bottom than most other brands, and pricing-wise was very affordable.
The Singapore outlet at Bugis Junction will likely serve the signature pork dumplings.
In other international branches, they also offer varieties like prawn or vegetable fillings.
That’s not all. The menu usually includes side dishes like beef curry soup or glass noodles to go with the buns.
Having Yang’s Dumpling in Singapore means fans do not have to fly to Shanghai for a taste. Keep a lookout for its opening.
