Nuldam Space centres its concept on writing a letter to your future self, an idea that feels quite novel in an age shaped by instant messages and short attention spans.
What surprised me during my visit was seeing a number of young customers with pen in hand, focused on paper rather than screens (though half were on laptops).
Given how digitally dependent this generation is often assumed to be, the scene felt unexpected.
Nuldam Space originates from South Korea, where it first gained attention for combining café culture with letter writing.
The outlet at SCAPE is its first outside Korea, and the concept remains largely similar.
This creates a noticeably slower rhythm than most cafés in the Orchard area.
All you need to do is to purchase letter sets alongside drinks or desserts, though it is possible to use the service without ordering food.
Letters are written at the table. Once completed, envelopes are sealed and placed into mailboxes labelled with the chosen delivery date, which can range from a few months to a year later (I noticed quite a number on Valentine’s Day).
Since this is a food blog, I should mention that the menu is fully plant based, and focused on drinks and desserts rather than full meals.
Desserts include Vegan Croissants in Plain ($7.50), Matcha ($8.50), Pistachio ($8.70), Sweet Potato ($8.70) and Almonds ($8.50).
This is alongside Vegan Layered Cakes such as Cookies and Cream ($8.90), Tiramisu ($8.90), Sweet Potato ($8.90) and Dark Chocolate ($8.90).
I had the Pistachio Layered Cake, which arrived as a sizable block with thick layers of cream and sponge, topped with chopped pistachio.
The portion was generous and could feel heavy to finish on your own, especially after a drink.
I thought that the texture was distinctly creamy throughout, maybe a little too creamy, with the layers leaning more towards soft and dense rather than light.
Some interesting coffee options include Vegan Vanilla Latte ($7.70), Vegan Hazelnut Latte ($7.70), Vegan Nuldam Black Sesame Cream Latte ($9) and Vegan Nuldam Almond Cream Latte ($9).
Nuldam Space seems to work best when viewed as an experience rather than just a café-café.
What stayed with me more than any single item was the sight of people quietly writing letters and leaving them behind, a contrast to the outside hustle culture.
