SCAPE at Orchard has gone through yet another revamp. Yes, again.
The youth-centric building has always had good intentions but not always the best follow-through.
Still, each refresh brings in new tenants, and this round includes Hanco Coffee.
Hanco Coffee looks like it came straight out of Seoul, with its sleek wood tones, clean tiles and soft lighting.
Even the name feels Korean-inspired. But the food and drinks are firmly Hanco’s own, not a direct lift from K-café culture.
The menu remains lean for now.
You get the classic coffee choices like Americano ($6), Latte ($7), and Cold Brew SOE ($7.5). There’s a Dirty Coffee section with Matcha Dirty ($8), Thai Tea Dirty ($8) and Rice Dirty ($8).
Then come the speciality drinks, where things get playful (and pricey).
You’ll find Cocoa Cuddles ($15) with cocoa and spice, Love You From My Heart To-Ma-Toes ($14) that sneaks in tomato and salted plums, Mango Got Sticky ($12) with mango and rice milk, Berry Important Drink ($11), Mild Spicy ($10) with Thai chilli and coconut water, and Mint Condition ($9) with pistachio and lime.
I ordered Mango Got Sticky ($12), which arrived looking like a layered cocktail, complete with a preserved mango garnish.
The first sip was refreshing with tart mango balanced by coffee notes. There’s even a faint perfume note that keeps it from being too one-dimensional.
Expensive, yes, but interesting enough to justify trying at least one of their drinks.
Dessert is an in-house Burnt Cheesecake ($9), available in rotating flavours such as truffle, matcha, pistachio and Thai tea.
I went with the Thai Tea Burnt Cheesecake ($9), and I immediately thought that the portion felt on the small side.
The Thai tea flavour was quite muted. Texture-wise, I wished the centre leaned more molten and gooey rather than firm all the way through.
The drinks at Hanco Coffee are inventive enough to pique curiosity, and the cheesecake is pleasant if not mind-blowing.
The vibes are great and service friendly (great for photos too) – the kind of place you check out for your Insta while SCAPE figures itself out.
