Oh, $2 Croissant? $2.30 Shio Pan?

Dough at Bukit Timah Interim Food Centre isn’t the kind of place you stumble upon unless you’re already in the know.

By the way, they were formerly known as Juz Bake, and offer a variety of baked goods, including French pastries and Japanese-inspired items.

I grabbed a Shio Pan ($2.30), aka the trending salt bread.

While it may not be as ‘atas’ as some of the brand-name shops, it was pretty good.

The outside had a satisfying light crisp and a hint of salt that played nicely with the soft, buttery centre.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Red Bean Bun ($1.80), which edges out the average ones you get in the chain stores.

The bun leans into its Japanese roots. It’s softer and airier than the usual local version, with a light, smooth texture in the dough.

The red bean paste is mildly sweet, not overly dense, and has that subtle earthy flavour you’d expect from proper azuki.

Dough is not top-tier bakery stuff, but for the price and what you get, it does the job just fine at a good pricing.

Now I’m curious enough to try more of their other bakes.
