“Yay” for the Hougang folks, but not so much for the Bishan people.

Denzy Gelato has made a move from Bishan to Hougang (684 Hougang Ave 8); with another outlet at 509 Bedok North Street 3.

The ice cream cafe was first founded by in early 2019, and produces inhouse adventurous and distinctive flavours, inspired by the owner’s overseas travels.

Being trained in Italy, he ensures that only quality ingredients are used in their handmade and unique ice cream creations.

Interesting to note that he also won the Singapore Gelato Championship in 2019, earning the prestigious title of “Singapore’s Best Gelato”.

The winning flavour was Pear, Ginger and Ginger flower inspired by Chinese rojak – which I did wish was available in-store.

Denzy offers a cozy and fuss-free space. Similarly, the interior is kept with a simple and classic industrial touch: cemented walls and flooring, a black ice cream counter and studio lightings.

All gelato is churned in-house, with ingredients made from scratch. A single scoop starts from $4.20, while a double is from $7.50. Waffles are at $5.80 extra.

What makes them different from other ice cream places is the variety of flavours here, some of which are quite less-commonly-seen and interesting.

Their specialty flavours include Roasted Bronte Pistachio, Whisky & Salted Pecan Brittle, and Piedmont Hazelnut.

For something “premium”, there are the Dark Chocolate, Yoghurt Speculoos, Tahitian Vanilla, Brown Butter Pecan, Mocha Crunch and Orange Chocolate.

Other “standard” flavours include the Cookies & Cream, Hojicha, Sea Salt Gula Jawa, and Black Sesame.

The almond and macadamia nut pastes are created by stone grinding for 10 hours; while the yoghurt is sous-vide to make yoghurt-based gelato. Interesting.

Recommended is their Roasted Bronte Pistachio gelato using slow-roasted Bronte pistachios from Italy that are grounded into a fine paste.

The result was a creamy velvety gelato base with smooth mouthful; with nutty and buttery taste of the roasted pistachio paste.

The waffle was well-made and was fragrant, light and airy with a crispy, golden-brown exterior.
