September Coffee has moved to Craig Road, not very far from where it first started. (Two shops away from Fortuna Terrazza Café.)
The original café opened in September 2022, with the name inspired by the owner’s birth month and the timing of its opening.
Fun fact: June Coffee is also by the same team, continuing their calendar-themed naming idea.
I remember the former outlet for its lighter, softer colours and Korean café feel.
The new space has gone in a warmer direction, with timber walls, reddish-brown tiles, paper lamps and more varied seating spread across the long shophouse unit.
The menu continues to lean towards Japanese and Korean-inspired café food, though there are more substantial choices now.
The udon section remains one of the highlights, with Rosé Tonkatsu Udon ($25), Carbonara Udon ($21), Aburi Scallop Uni Udon ($28) and Mentaiko Udon ($24).
There are also pastas such as Sake Asari Linguine ($23), Squid Ink Crab Pasta ($22), Lamb Ragu Bianco ($24), Pulled Beef Brisket Spaghetti ($24) and Roasted Pumpkin Rigatoni ($19).
In a ‘Korean‘ mood, I decided to go for the Rosé Tonkatsu Udon ($25).
A breaded pork cutlet sat across Sanuki udon in a creamy gochujang sauce, with stracciatella cheese and pickled shallots adding even more to the bowl.
The udon had the expected thick, chewy bite, while the rosé sauce was creamy, mildly spicy and slightly sweet. I actually enjoyed this (quite 重口味 flavourful), and probably best for those who already like Korean-style rosé pasta.
For things to share, you can look at the Yuzu Negitoro Tartlet ($14 for three pieces), Salmon Avocado Tart ($14 for three pieces), Squid Ink Shrimp Croquette ($12) and Mushroom Risotto Croquette ($10).
The Mushroom Risotto Croquette ($10) was served as three breaded rounds topped with blue cheese cream, truffle, field mushrooms and Parmigiano Reggiano.
The crust had a good crispness, while the risotto within remained soft and creamy. Three pieces may not look like much, but this is probably better shared before the mains.
The Chicken Nanban Karaage ($12) stayed juicy beneath its craggy coating, while the glaze was towards the sweet and savoury side.
It was enjoyable to share as well, though I would have preferred just a notch more acidity to cut through the sauce and tartar, particularly after several pieces.
September Coffee’s food still follows the same playful fusion direction, and I liked that the new outlet is larger, warmer and better suited for a meal with friends.
