Ah, a new matcha specialty café has landed in Everton Park.
The area has always been a cosy little pocket for café hopping, though quite a few spots have shuttered in recent years (like The Flour Department).
Still, Everton Park keeps finding ways to reinvent itself with small, interesting concepts like this.
Behind Rituals of Kora is the team from Kora Bakehouse (their original location is in International Plaza), and this Everton Park outlet is their second venue.
Walking in, the place has a vibey, mellow but styled feel with exposed brick, wood tones, and soft lighting.
It is primarily a takeaway outlet, but there are seats to rest and pause for that little while.
Drinks here include a focused range of ceremonial and curated matcha creations, along with teas and a few non-matcha options.
No coffee spotted.
I was drawn to the curated blends which feature Supernova Matcha ($9.50), Strawberry Ichigo Matcha ($9.50), Maple Earl Grey Matcha ($11.90), Blue Pea Coconut Matcha ($11.90) and Taro Matcha ($11.90).
Other than the once-viral Strawberry Matcha, it seems like matcha cafes are exploring more combinations.
Noted that prices were slightly on the higher side for a takeaway joint.
I ordered the Supernova Matcha ($9.50), as recommended by the server.
It uses a premium grade matcha (Kyonaka) paired with mango purée and strawberry compote.
The drink delivered a clean green tea flavour with noticeable grassy umami notes, and the mango and strawberry added that sweetness and brightness.
Thankfully, the matcha didn’t get lost behind the sweet elements, which was what I appreciated.
On the food side: the display was relatively wide. Croissants, banana loaf, cookies, brownies and the like.
I tried the Sea Salt Brownie ($6). Visually it looked rich and dark chocolate-led.
But texture-wise it let me down a little. It was crumbly and dry, without that moist take.
The Banana Loaf ($6) also caught my eye, but I noticed some slices were thick-serving whereas others were thin — almost half of the other.
Rituals of Kora has an inviting space with a clear matcha-forward focus, just temper expectations a little for the bakery items.
