Coexist Coffee Co. has built a name in Singapore for its stylish cafés with a slightly industrial look and locations in unexpected spots.
Think Hillview Terrace and Lifelong Learning Institute at Eunos Road.
The café has expanded once again, and this time in another unexpected place at 122 Pasir Panjang Road.
The location feels quieter, located along an unassuming row of shops. It is behind a bus stop and a short stroll from Pasir Panjang MRT.
Like their other outlets, the design is clean, with steel details and an intentionally pared-down look.
The space has large windows that bring in light during the day, and there is a steady hum from laptops, coffee cups and small meetings.
There is little clutter, just neat rows of tables and a counter lined with croissants and coffee gear.
The food menu here is broad, covering brunch plates, Asian-inspired mains and sharing dishes.
Brunch plates include Guac Toast ($17), Smoked Salmon Toast ($20), Butter Chicken Toast ($20), Grilled Cheese Sandwich ($20), Bangers and Mash ($22), Chicken Waffle ($25), and Thai Krabby Toastie with panko brioche and tiger prawn ($27).
Croissants come in flavours such as Chicken Kebab Ragu ($10), Lemon Tart ($10), and Salted Egg Cream ($10).
I only managed to try the Chicken Ragu Croissant this round, as they were still in soft launch. The croissant itself was well-baked, crisp and layered, holding up deliciously against the savoury filling.
The chicken ragu, gentle in spice, had a comforting stewed quality. It was slightly messy to eat, but the punch and flavours were there.
Drinks, of course, are central, with their “Grey Matter” or “Nights Out” house espresso blend.
Made from beans sourced from Papua New Guinea, Guatemala, and Colombia, the “Nights Out” had enough intensity to satisfy those who prefer their coffee dark, smooth, and slightly nutty.
The latter I had paired well with the pastry, and reminded me that this is still a coffee-first café.
For sweets, you find Pistachio Mille Crepe ($8) and Black Sesame Mille Crepe ($10).
While I did not get to try more of the dishes, the foundations are here, and it seems they are easing into the Pasir Panjang neighbourhood slowly but surely.
