Tall ceilings checked, natural sunlight checked, potted plants checked, Instagram-worthy spot checked.
Coexist Coffee Co. has quickly expanded to their 3rd outlet within a year, the first at Hillview Terrace and a second outlet at Keong Saik.
I noticed many instagrammers posting about the huge industrial-décor space, how gorgeous it looked, yet nothing really on the food-food, and so decided to check it out.
Unauthorized use and/or duplication of any content and photos without express and written permission from DFD is strictly prohibited.
The flagship outlet is currently opened at Lifelong Learning Centre, right next to Paya Lebar Square at Exit B of Paya Lebar MRT station.
(If you are looking out for new F&Bs at Paya Lebar, some include the 3D immersive cafe Soul Coffee at KINEX, Rempapa, and Zing by Xi Yan at Paya Lebar Quarter.)
Each of the Coexist outlets has a distinctive unique colour scheme – Hillview’s featuring a burgundy & white interior; Keong Saik’s with a midnight blue; and the latest branch with a darker industrial warehouse theme.
With a mezzanine and a 85-seaters space, the interior is designed like a park, with street lamps, direction signages pavements and volcanic rocks to complete the theme.
Diners can choose to sit at the various different corners for their #OOTD shots; on the communal steps, bar counter, mezzanine floor overlooking the entire space or even at the tables on the volcanic ash.
Their menu is a combined concept of both their first and second outlets, offering both brunch items and rice bowls available from 8:30am till 4pm daily.
Prices are generally on the steeper side, with Brunch items such as Coexist Breakfast 3.0 ($24), Steak & Eggs ($34), Salmon Toast ($20), Smashed Avocado Toast ($18) and Squid Ink Risotto ($28).
To cater to the office crowd in the vicinity, rice bowls such as Chicken Quinoa ($18), Beef Bulgogi Quinoa ($18), Beetroot Salad with Goat Cheese ($14) and Grilled Pear Salad ($16) are offered here.
I must say that their Sharing Plates looked more interesting, with a selection of Dirty Tots ($16) which its Tater Thots with minced braised pork and Carrot Cake Fries ($14).
Unlike the usual potato/ sweet potato/ spam fries that we are familiar with, here we have are carrot cake fries made into sticks with sambal Mayo, dehydrated radish (chye poh) and spring onion sprinkled on top.
Like carrot cake in the elongated form instead of cubes, the chunky size carrot cake provided a suitable textural bite, whereas the sambal Mayo added a spicy kick to the otherwise bland carrot cake.
The dehydrated radish helped include a savory twist, and was pretty addictive.
For a more filling meal, Coexist also offers Pizza ($18 – $22) on Fridays till Sunday, Mains ($24 – $36) and Pasta ($16 – $24) after 12pm daily.
Their dessert menu is rather extensive, with Entremet ($8 – $10), Swissroll ($6) and Plated Desserts ($12 – $16).
I had the Bellini ($10) which consisted of white peach mousse with champagne jelly, raspberry and vanilla sponge.
The raspberry provided some light citrus notes, with complementing sweetness from the vanilla sponge.
Office workers will probably enjoy this without suffering from food coma from this light and refreshing dessert.
Swissroll are available in 2 different flavours, Matcha ($6) with mascarpone cream and Hojicha ($6) with sweet potato and hojicha cream.
I wished that the Matcha Swissroll ($6) has stronger matcha and earthy notes as its primarily mascarpone cream.
3 different espresso blends are available: Bloom (Gesha, Sidamo, Brazil Esmeralda), Nights Out (Papua New Guinea, Guatemala, Columbia) and Columbia Popayan Reserve Decaf, roasted in-house.
Prices are reasonable and starts from $4 for a cup of Espresso, $4.50 for Black, $5 for White and $5.50 for Mocha.
My cup of White ($5) using the Bloom blended double shots of espresso was medium-bodied, smooth with distinctive acidic notes with a nutty aftertaste.
The coffee was robust with a strong profile that is suitable the CBD crowd who needs the extra caffeine kick.
Welcome Coexist to the east, with an expanded space, menu and a new colour concept for for those staying and working here and needs their caffeine fix at 8:30am.
