Exciting news. Funan has turned into more than a tech and lifestyle mall, with a fresh wave of food destinations now open and more on the way.

The line-up already includes Hai Kah Lang 海脚人 with its seafood noodles and congee, and Maji Curry serving its award-winning Japanese curry rice.

Love KTV? Next generation KTV brand Pure K 纯K has also landed in Singapore for the first time with cutting-edge rooms and Taiwanese comfort food.

Famous dessert brand Ruxu 入续, Keming Bing Sat 克茗冰室, Yuen Kee Dumpling, Kuan Zhai 宽窄碗碗香, Hakka Bond 客家帮, Mr. Onigiri, Ryokudo, and Ottie Pancakes have landed at Funan too.

Here are the new restaurants and dining options you need to try at Funan:

Hai Kah Lang 海脚人
Funan #01-15

MICHELIN Bib Gourmand Seafood Noodles and Congee from Kuala Lumpur
Hai Kah Lang, which translates to “People by the sea,” comes with quite a reputation.

Its Kuala Lumpur outlet was awarded the MICHELIN Bib Gourmand, and the brand has since made its way to Singapore with a shop at Funan.

The look is clean and modern with rattan and wood touches, though the menu is what most people will care about.

Expect seafood-focused bowls from soup to dry versions, featuring prawns, squid, fish, and even crab.

They also retail their own sauces and addictive crackers if you want to bring a little of that flavour home.

Must-Try Here:
The Mixed Seafood Noodle or Congee is the bowl that sets the tone for Hai Kah Lang. At $22.90 it does not sound cheap, but the spread of seafood makes a clear statement.

You get crab, prawns, squid, fish slices and clams (lala), all fresh and cooked just enough to hold texture.

You can choose from a variety of soups from clear soup, soup with milk, tomato, curry to tom yum, though I leaned towards the classic light broth a little more (for the natural sweetness from the seafood).

The Signature Sauce Mix Seafood Dry Noodle ($20.90) is the other crowd favourite, and it is easy to see why.

The noodles (get the “wantan mee”) come tossed in their in-house sauce mix, and on top sits a generous mix of prawns, squid and fish, all bouncy and fresh.

Pure K 纯K
Funan #04-01 to #04-06

Brings Music, Party Vibes and Taiwanese Comfort Food to Funan
Craving “K”? Pure K纯K newly opened at Funan (with a really huge space and plenty of rooms) is not your typical karaoke joint.

Pure K brings together karaoke and dining in one space, branding itself as a “music, food, party” destination.

The KTV rooms are modern and lively, designed for group gatherings where food is not just an afterthought.

Unlike many karaoke lounges that rely on generic snacks, Pure K puts effort into its menu, serving a mix of Taiwanese staples and Asian comfort dishes.

Must-Try Here:
The Taiwanese Beef Noodles are the dish that will surprise first-timers. The broth is flavourful with a savoury sweetness, carrying herbs and spice, and the beef chunks are slow-braised until tender.

The Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice has the same homely appeal, with glossy minced pork that you can mix into the rice to your own liking.

If you do have more space, I will say get the Peanut Shaved Ice which turned out to be my favourite.

The food holds its own well enough to make you want to come back even without the singing.

Khao
Funan #01-14

Modern Asian Bowls with Satay Chicken, Pork Belly and Seafood
Khao Modern Asian Bowls is one of those spots that takes the idea of a rice bowl seriously but does not let it get boring, thanks to exciting its Asian flavours.

The team started as a cloud kitchen before moving into physical outlets – now with a sit-down store at Funan, bringing with them a menu that blends familiar Asian comfort with playful touches.

It is casual dining aimed at the office crowd, but with enough variety to stay interesting, even if you come back more than once a week.

Must-Try Here:
The line-up runs from Kampung Satay Khao with chargrilled chicken and satay sauce to Umami Pork Khao with slow roasted pork belly, and even a Tropical Seafood Khao on coconut rice.

One of the signatures is the Spice Kissed Chicken, which sits on a base of rice, layered with house made tomato sauce, garlic mayo, fried shallots and more.

The chicken is moist and lightly charred, while the tomato sauce gives tang and brightness that keeps each bite from feeling too heavy.

Definitely more colours and flavours than your average rice bowl. Portion size is also good for its price.

Maji Curry
Funan #B1-28

Award-Winning Japanese Curry Rice with Cheese and Hamburger Steak
Do you know there is a curry shop in Tokyo that beat more than 400 others to win the Kanda Curry Grand Prix?

That is Maji Curry, and its second Singapore outlet has opened at Funan.

Ordering is done at kiosks where you choose your spice level and toppings, from cheese and omelettes to triple meat sets that try to show off the kitchen’s strengths.

Get your fill from Pork Cutlet Cheese Sauce Curry Rice, Tonkatsu Omelette Curry Rice, Omelette Curry with Fried Prawn, to sides like Pork Cutlet Salad.

Must-Try Here:
I went for the Hamburger Steak Cheese Sauce Curry Rice, which is the ‘thumbs-up’ must-order here.

The beef patty comes thick and hefty, seared outside with a dense chew that holds up well against the robust curry.

Unlike the sweeter versions often found elsewhere, Maji Curry’s sauce is richer and more layered, with spice that lingers and coats the fluffy grains of rice.

Give it a good mix with the melted cheese which adds creaminess and savoury depth, and take bites that is both indulgent and comforting.
