Hmm… I saw “La Grigne” on the shopfront and wonder how to pronounce it.
Turns out it’s “lah green-yeh”. In French baking, a “grigne” is the little ear or split that forms on a loaf when the dough opens up in the oven.
La Grigne Patisserie is quite an under-the-radar bakery shop which sits quietly along Erskine Road, right near Maxwell Food Centre.

Good news for those near NUH: the brand has just launched a new dine‑in café concept under the name La Grigne Patisserie Asian.
Rather unfamiliar with the place, it took me a while to find the bakery cafe
Located in the basement of One@Kent Ridge, you can get there via the medical centre block or use Kent Ridge MRT (Circle Line) and take Exit C.
La Grigne is best known for its croissants, which lean French but come with a twist from Japan.
There was a tempting range of savoury and sweet items including Chicken Ham & Cheese Croissant ($5), Salmon Mentaiko Croissant ($5.50), Chocolate Lava Croissant ($4.80), Chicken Sausage Béchamel ($5), Almond Frangipane Croissant ($6), and Spicy Crabby Croissant ($4.50).
Its Salmon Mentaiko Croissant ($5.50) gets the most attention online, with the spicy cod roe adding a creamy salty hit.
As an Almond Frangipane Croissant ($6) fan, I was most keen to try this one (again).
The croissant came filled with smooth almond paste and topped with crunchy nuts. Somehow, I preferred it when I had it at the Erskine Road.
This could have been more crisp and flaky, and it left me wishing for a bit more texture.
Wanting something savoury, I had the Teriyaki Chicken Brioche ($4.50), which came with a glossy, golden bun loaded with chunks of savoury teriyaki chicken
Each piece of chicken was coated in a sweet-salty glaze, with an extra drizzle and a scattering of bonito flakes.
The bread was soft and slightly sweet, which paired well with the sticky, flavourful topping. I wished it was slightly warmer (but when I asked if it could be heated, the server explained it would dry up).
La Grigne Patisserie offers a good range of pastries, some with a creative touch.
Some options look like they could be more generous with fillings, but overall the variety and quality still make it worth a visit if you are at Kent Ridge.
