I first discovered Pepper Bowl at Amoy Street Food Centre while searching for the best Beef hor Fun in Singapore, and I included it confidently in my “10 Beef Horfun in Singapore” list.

Even after repeated visits, this humble stall at Amoy Street Food Centre still holds up.

Each time I return, the food is as satisfying as I remember. It is harder to find a place that keeps its standards steady over time, and Pepper Bowl does just that.

On weekdays, the lunchtime crowd speaks for itself.

Office workers form a patient queue in front of the stall, drawn by the scent of black pepper and sizzling beef.

Choices include Black Pepper Beef Rice ($6.80), Black Pepper Pork Rice ($6.30), Spring Onion Beef Rice ($6.80), Spring Onion Pork Rice ($6.30), Black Pepper Beef Horfun ($6.80), and Black Pepper Pork Horfun ($6.30).

You can add an onsen egg (poached egg) for $0.80, double the meat for $3.50, or switch to rice or horfun for an extra $1.00.

The Black Pepper Beef Hor Fun ($6.80) remains my top pick.

The hor fun is silky, the beef slices are tender, and the black pepper sauce brings a full, bold flavour without overwhelming the dish.

I also like that the bowl is full-on and ‘powerful’ and punchy in black pepper flavour, with no lack of wok-hei.

Do add the onsen egg. Once mixed in, the yolk runs through the beef and noodles, making the whole bowl richer and smoother.

If you want something gentler, the Spring Onion Pork Rice is a dependable bet.

The pork slices are soft and coated with a sweet glaze, while fresh spring onions bring a mild crunch.

It is a simpler bowl but never dull. The onsen egg works its magic here too, making the pork even softer and more satisfying.

The two-person team running Pepper Bowl works smoothly even during busy periods. Orders are filled quickly, and the wait never feels too long.

Maybe the wait can be slightly longer than expected as the chef is frying up bowl by bowl, but it is well-worth the queue.
