To be honest, I had never heard of this Fish Soup stall until I visited Havelock Road Cooked Food Centre during lunch.
You Yi Fish Soup 友谊鱼汤 found at the extreme corner of the hawker centre draws both such a long queue during lunch time.
Possibly the longest here?
The stall which name means “friendship” has gained a loyal following, largely due to its tangy tom yum broth, generous portions of fresh fish – all at affordable pricing.

On the menu are Fried Fish with Tom Yam ($4.50), Fried Fish with Soup ($4.50), Seafood Soup ($4.50), Mian Fen Guo ($4) and Ban Mian ($4.50).
My usual favourites are the Fried Fish with Soup ($4) and Fried Fish with Tom Yum ($4.50).
The Fried Fish Soup stands out for its clear broth that is light though some customers may find it on the blander side.
It does not really have the fish soup sweetness, and is closer to say ban mian soup.
As for the fried fish, it is served in a separate small bowl so that the pieces do not get soggy. This to me, at the pricing, is the real draw.
The fish is lightly battered and golden, retaining a satisfying crunch that contrasts with the soft texture of the fish meat inside.
I like the Tom Yam option better, which introduces a spicy and tangy twist.
This variation is popular among those who enjoy a bit of heat as the Tom Yam base is well-spiced, with a pleasant acidity.
The stall also offers a version with yam rice, which adds a comforting, earthy dimension to the meal.
Plus point: the stall also offers different types of noodles, including Mee Hoon Kuay, Ban Mian, U Mian, Ee Mian, Vermicelli, and Bee Hoon, each available for an additional $0.50 in case you want to mix-and-match.
For the price, cannot really complain.
