This is one interesting and unique Bagel-focused bakery cafe.
Dine-in timings vary weekly; pre-orders are recommended, and menu items change frequently.
The charming cafe located at Everton Park, started from a simple home kitchen into a hotspot for those craving something a little different.
Here, French pastry skills meet the diverse flavours from the creative mind of its founder, Julie.
The quaint café is adorned entirely in hues of pink – from the walls to the countertops to the seating.
This kind of echoes the softness and style often seen in Korean cafes.
The owner’s fondness for Korean culture, and easy-listening Korean music adds to the overall vibe.
Primarily operating on a pre-order basis, the café opens to walk-ins occasionally.
Keep a lookout for limited opening days and the availability of popular items, which often sell out quickly, as noted on their Instagram.
One of the offerings I had was the cute-looking Japanese Curry Potato Cheesy Scramble Eggs Chicken Katsu Bagel Sando ($15).
The bagel, shaped and colored like a tomato, encased varied fillings.
You get a layer of crispy chicken katsu paired with a cheesy scrambled egg, all topped off with a hearty serving of homecooked Japanese curry potato. I tasted some mustard as well.
What I liked was the softness of the bagels which held the ingredients well.
For those who appreciate a twist on traditional desserts, my favourite was the Black Sesame Tangyuan Strawberry Peanut Butter Bagel ($14).
This bagel combines the nuttiness of black sesame with the gooey sweetness of handmade tangyuan mochi and the crunch of peanut butter.
Surprisingly, the bagel managed to maintain a lightness despite its rich ingredients, offering a pleasant surprise to those who might expect a carb-heavy meal.
There is also their Matcha Cookies Bagel Sando with Pistachio Praline Basque Cheesecake ($14). What?
This indulgence is the first of its kind in town, featuring a bagel with a cookie crust.
The homemade French pistachio praline and the lightly sweetened burnt Basque cheesecake filling create a treat that’s not overly sweet but profoundly satisfying.
Whether you are purposefully making a trip or just passing through, a stop at The Flour Department is like visiting that fun, quirky friend who always has something new and exciting to share.
But safer to pre-order lah.
