KARA Café & Dessert Bar was set up by the people behind Sogurt, and is an independent café at Bukit Timah serving LA-inspired all-day comfort food dining.
It has announced on its Facebook that it will be closing end June.
The following was a message from its owner:
”It’s been a heartbreaking process to let go of something so dear to our hearts.
This store was my first baby – birthed right out of college when I first came back to SG from LA in 2009.
Its been the mainstay of Sogurt as we went through the opening and closing of many stores over a span of 12+ years. It’s been our 2nd home, our community, and customers and staff alike have become like family.
The end of something good is never easy, but in the process, God has graced us with favour in finding new opportunities for all our staff, and a smooth handover so far to the new operators who are also friends of ours.
Me and my family have made peace with our decision over the past weeks of discussions, and agree this is best for us moving forward.
We’ll miss our shop loads, but also look forward to the next chapter. Hope it’ll be as meaningful and fun of a pursuit!”
The imaginative yet welcoming pastel-coloured space is known offer savoury and sweet creations, and sometimes unusual taste pairings, from hot savoury grain bowls to decadent Mochi waffles, pasta and grilled cheesy toasties.
KARA’s signature dish of Pork Belly Miso Grain Bowl is ramen-inspired, made with fork-tender Japanese-style kakuni braised pork belly, soft egg, cucumber edamame salad, and miso mayonnaise.
Served atop either Japanese rice or quinoa, and garnished with generous amounts of nori seaweed and ramen crisps for that textural mouthfeel crunch.
This crowd-favourite Tempura Fish Kimchi Grain Bowl, is a fusion of Japanese and Korean flavours.
This spicy and tangy bowl comes with a crispy and juicy tempura fish fillet on a bed of fresh diced cucumber, avocado and edamame.
Finally, it is topped with a piquant kimchi mayo, barbecue sauce and sprinkled with furikake.
Of course many come for their froyo, with favourites including Maple Lavender and Salted Speculoos for ice-cream, and Strawberry Thyme, Lychee Rose, and Passionfruit Mint.
If you are a fan of Sogurt, it has converted to a latest format of “hardserve” yogurt ice cream (with added probiotics) in tubs and minicups available for sale online (www.sogurt.com.sg) and supermarkets.
