Daily Ground is a new addition to the Bukit Timah, and looks set to attract café hoppers with its combination of brunch, bakery products and gelato offerings.
The café joins neighbours Choupinette, My Little Spanish Place, KARA Café and Dessert Bar in the same stretch, of short walking distance from Tan Kah Kee station and Hwa Chong.
SugarTree Gelato has ended its run at Kovan and moved its operations over at this same space.
The vision for Daily Ground is to be a calm and inviting space, with natural lights and cool tones on the second storey.
Customers can look forward to a spread from fuss-free light breakfast of hand-made pastries and coffee to a full sit-down meal with crowd favourites such as a full breakfast and mains.
Starting with daily bakes, there are options of Butter Croissant ($3.80), Kouign Amann ($4.50), Oolong Pear Danish ($5.50), Truffle Mushroom Danish ($5.50), Ham & Gruyere Croissant ($6.80), Pulled Pork Cocky Bun ($4.80), Otah Cocky Bun ($4.80), and Cinnamon Hazelnut ($5.50).
The intriguing sounding Otah Cocky Bun ($4.80) is their take on Bolo Bun with local favourite of otah, with savoury-spicy otah sandwiches between a fluffy bun with crumbly sweet top.
The combination quite worked as you get varying textures and sweet-savoury-spicy flavours in one. For the pastry to have more ‘oomph’, I thought that the crusty layer could be more sugary and buttery.
The brunch and mains menu includes items of Shakshuka ($18), Green Eggs Ham Frittata ($18), Chilli Scrambled ($18), Samvo Toast ($20), Rosti Eggs Benny ($20), Pulled Pork Burger ($22), Jolly Chicken Burger ($22) and Mushroom Ragu ($22).
My Rosti & Sausage ($24) was pretty decent and filling, comprising of creamy scrambled eggs, rosti with a pleasant crispy layer and jumbo gouda chicken sausage.
With SugarTree Gelato sharing the same space, there is that sweet complementary element where you can enjoy a scoop of gelato over a freshly made waffle or rosemary cone.
There is an assortment of gelato ($4.50, $5) made from scratch using all-natural premium ingredients.
Flavours include Vanilla Bean Cacao Nib, Salted Caramel Cacao Nib, Chrysanthemum Oolong, Calamansi Sourplum Sorbetto, Strawberry Hibiscus, Black Sesame, Dark Chocolate, Litchi Raspberry, and Mango Coconut Sorbetto.
While the Roasted Pistachio boasted fresh earthy notes, I thought that the sweetness level could be brought down for the nuttiness to be more pronounced.
