Suntec City has a specific corner unit near the Promenade MRT entrance that seems to be in a constant state of change.
There is always some “famous”, “viral”, “must-visit” brand that appears as a pop-up, only to vanish a few months after.
We have seen names like Korean Bakery 1946, B For Bagel, Standard Bun, Yoon Yeon Dang and maybe a few others occupy this space in a very short span of time.
It often feels like a revolving door for whatever is currently trending on social media.
Great for testing market, variety (and influencers who constantly need content); though not so good for consumers if you really like that brand.
Noci Bakehouse is the latest name to take over this #01-604 unit, though I must say it looks more settled than the previous tenants.
This is likely because the team behind it also runs Noci Pasta Bar within the same mall, and has clearly invested a lot of effort into the interior design to create a specific atmosphere.
The space successfully mimics the trendy Seongsu district in Seoul with its bright and airy aesthetic, which reminds me a little of London Bagel Museum and Artist Bakery.
You will notice cream-coloured brick walls, light wooden furniture, and even a faux white fireplace that gives the room a touch of European cottage charm.
It is a departure from the usual more-sterile look of most shopping mall cafes.
The bakery offers a wide selection of European-inspired bakes with a distinct Korean twist.
Some of the items I spotted include Salt Bread ($5.50), Castella Milk Cream Salt Bread ($5.50), Crème Brûlée Danish ($8.50), Pistachio Tart ($9.50), Strawberry Tart ($9.50), and Spring Onion Cream Cheese Bagel ($7).
There are also more filling items like the Cottage Beef Hot Sandwich ($14.50), Smoked Salmon Croissant ($14), and French Toast ($15).
Most customers seem to be here for the signature salt breads and the tissue bread which features many thin layers of pastry.
I tried the Black Sesame & Butter Salt Bread, which is one of the newer flavours.
This came filled with black sesame bean paste, sweet condensed milk, and butter, so it leans more dessert-like than the usual savoury salt bread.
The bread itself had that familiar chewy pull with a slightly crisp base, while the black sesame filling gave it a nutty, earthy depth without becoming too sweet. This is the one to get.
The service is efficient and the seating area at the back provides enough privacy for a quiet conversation.
I hope this bakery manages to stay around longer than the previous brands at this corner.
