Fukuoka has established itself as a leading city for specialty coffee in Japan.

Among the many roasteries, Manu Coffee Roasters is that one name that kept coming up in my various online searches for “best coffee in Fukuoka“.

This coffee chain has multiple branches across the city, including locations in Daimyo, Haruyoshi, and the striking Kujira shop in Shirogane.

Each branch may offer a slightly different environment, yet they all share a distinctive, artsy identity and a somewhat bohemian feel.

You can expect a vibrant atmosphere filled with eclectic furnishings, local artwork, and a deep sense of community.

The Kujira branch (near Yakuin station) serves as the main roasting hub for the brand. It was not difficult to find for me because of its bright yellow exterior.

The first floor usually functions as a shop where people can browse through a wide variety of coffee beans and original merchandise.

Moving to the second floor reveals a more relaxed area with plenty of seating options, including sofas that encourage customers to linger.

It is also the creative hub for the neighbourhood, frequently hosting small exhibitions or live music events.

The menu at Manu Coffee Roasters is surprisingly extensive for a specialty roaster.

They offer more than ten different types of lattes, along with single-origin pour-overs and espresso-based drinks.

Regular drinks include Americano (¥750), Manu Latte (¥840), Milk Coffee (¥700), Whipped Coffee (¥880), Coffee Shake (¥900), and Banana Shake (¥950).

I also spotted seasonal options such as Manu Ginger (¥700), Oshare Lemonade (¥750), Manu Chai (¥850), Japanese Black Tea (¥750), Karatsu Mikan Juice (¥980), and the Kiro Kiro Sundae (¥1400).

The signature drink of the house is the Manu Latte (¥840), which sits at the top of the regular menu (though it can be slightly pricy for some) and features mild chocolate-like notes and an easy, well-rounded taste.

Another popular choice is the Vanilla Sugar Latte (¥850), which provides a mild and smooth experience for those who prefer a bit of sweetness.

You can find items like cookies, scones, and cheesecake to accompany your drinks.

To me, the main charm about Manu Coffee is the vibes, and one that reflects the subculture of Fukuoka through its support of local artists and experimental approach.
