Margaret Market at Queenstown has been through quite a fair bit of changes since its opening.
It started as a heritage project with local stalls and community charm, but now feels like it is still finding its rhythm.
In between the fresh produce counters and coffee kiosks, I was led to a relatively new brand there.
OMG Decadent Donuts is a cheerful little stall that seems to take its dough very seriously.
Originally from Brisbane, Australia, OMG Decadent Donuts built its name on inclusivity and craft.
Every doughnut is gluten-free, nut-free, dairy-free and vegan.
The founders wanted a recipe that everyone could enjoy, one that would still taste indulgent without the usual allergens.
Their secret lies in the sugar blends, made entirely from natural fruits, vegetables and spices. No artificial colours or preservatives.
Through continuous research and development, they have created a range of bespoke sugars such as Spiced Beetroot and Ginger, Pineapple and Lime, Orange and Cinnamon, and Chai Spice.
Here’s how it works: their doughnuts (or donuts) are available at $6 for six plain or $7 for six flavoured.
Or you can get a single dusted at $3.75.
Flavours available at this Singapore store include cinnamon, strawberry, kopi, pine lime, berry sinful, to shiok mint choc.
Then each golden doughnut will be tossed in a tray of vivid sugar with your choice of flavour.
I went for the cinnamon as recommended. It was sweet (could be very sweet for some) but not overwhelming.
The texture was so special. It reminded me more of a soft sponge than a dense doughnut, which worked so deliciously with the spice mix.
Those who prefer chewy doughnuts might find these a little delicate, but the lightness was impressive.
OMG has partnered with Brash Boys Coffee too, a local brand started by two friends who roast small batches with an emphasis on clean, well-balanced brews.
Their espresso beans come from Tiong Hoe, one of Singapore’s long-time roasters.
So you don’t have to travel all the way to Biopolis if you want to try their coffee.
