Far East Plaza is one of those places where you never quite know what you’ll find, and there’s always something interesting when it comes to food.

From hole-in-the-wall eateries to dessert spots, it has a mix of old-school charm and new flavours popping up now and then.

Fan’s Cafe is one of those places you might walk past without noticing — until you catch a whiff of freshly baked bread.

It’s a small, no-frills spot with marble-like tables and plastic chairs. The kind of place where you grab a quick bite.

The seating is a bit tight, but it works if you’re just stopping by for a snack and a coffee.

The main draw here is their Shio Pan — salted bread that comes in different flavours.

I spotted Original, Kohi Choco, Kurogoma, and Ham & Cheese, with pricing ranging from $3 to $4.

The Kohi Choco Shio Pan ($4) is an interesting mix of sweet, slight saltiness, and chocolate bitterness.

Its deep brown crust has a slight sheen, with a crisp, buttery bite that gives way to a soft, airy interior.

The dough itself carries a mild cocoa bitterness, while the touch of salt enhances the flavours rather than overpowering them.

Best enjoyed warm, it pairs well with a cup of coffee.

They also offer a few cakes and Swiss rolls – which unfortunately were not available when I was there. Next time.
