Min Ji Laksa has earned quite a loyal following in Bendemeer Market & Food Centre by serving traditional bowls of Laksa.
Mee Rebus is on the menu, but I saw that many people are really here for the Laksa ($4, $5, $6).
The Laksa here arrived with thick bee hoon noodles, slices of fishcake, tau pok, cockles and half a hard-boiled egg.
Let me start with the gravy: it was fragrant and mildly spicy, with coconut milk providing a gentle richness without becoming too heavy.
While it looked on the light side, there was good creaminess and fragrance from the house-made rempah (inviting you to take more sips).
My favourite part had to be the tau pok which absorbed all that gravy well, releasing it with every bite, while the cockles were fresh and added a subtle briny taste.
While Min Ji’s Laksa is not as famous as some of the rest, it has a nostalgic flavour and delivers comfort in a bowl.
For those who enjoy a powerful spicy kick or a particularly thick broth, this version may feel a little understated (another online review state it is “quite average”).
The bee hoon is tender and soaks up the flavours, but you can always ask for extra gravy if you enjoy a richer experience.
