Perhaps one of the most underrated Laksa stall around. (I previously included this stall in the 10 Must-Try LAKSA In Singapore.)

Guang Fa Laksa 廣發叻沙 at Havelock Road Cooked Food Centre stands out as a favourite among its regular, that you would often find a line waiting (but not too long).

The stall run by a couple, is known for its efficient service. The hawkers ensure that patrons do not wait long for their meal, despite the crowds it draws.

The humble stall serves a traditional version of Laksa that incorporates a generous portion of cockles – so much so that there is a cockles-only version.

But I would recommend getting the normal version to experience a more balanced bowl and the rest of the ingredients.

A standard bowl of their Laksa is priced reasonably, starting at $4, and can go up depending on the portion size and inclusion of additional cockles.

This version departs from the more-popular Katong style, and you get a bowl of deep-orange gravy that is spicier, richer and perhaps oiler than usual (can be ‘scary’ if you see that much of red floating.)

There was a generous amount of springy and chewy bee hoon that was topped with crunchy bean sprouts.

The tau pok, fish cakes and the delicious cockles were very well prepared, and I loved the coconut milk gravy that was on the spicier side and gao-gao (rich and thick) coconut goodness.

Particularly notable for ‘hum’ lovers are the cockles, which are fresh and plump, adding a distinctively briny depth to the Laksa that sets Guang Fa apart from other stalls.

Guang Fa Laksa operates with varying hours, typically closing by early afternoon, so arriving earlier ensures you get to try their famed dish. It is worth noting that the stall is closed on Wednesdays and Sundays.
