Hazukido, a well-known Taiwanese croissant brand with outlets across Asia and North America, has arrived at Telok Ayer.

Their latest outlet at ICON Link@ClubStreet is found at the basement of Mercure ICON Singapore City Centre.

It offers a selection of croissants that follow their signature Japanese-inspired baking method, using premium ingredients like Elle & Vire butter and Japan Centenary Flour.

The shop itself is a takeaway-only setup, much like its Ngee Ann City outlet.

Croissants are baked fresh daily in limited quantities, using a folding technique that promises a crisp exterior and soft, airy layers inside.

The variety is smaller than at the other outlet, with around a dozen flavours available at a time, rotating from a menu of about twenty.

You can expect flavours like Queen Crab Truffle Cream, Seaweed, Lava Cheese, Sea Salt Butter, Cod Roe, Seaweed & Chicken Floss, and Honeycomb Croissants.

Prices range from $5.30 to $9.20, which is on the higher end for pastries. A Hazukido Savoury Box of 6 is priced at $43, so expectations naturally rise along with the price tag.

Assorted croissant flavours available at Hazukido, including savoury options

The Queen Crab Truffle Cream Croissant ($9.20) is a popular choice.

The truffle sauce was thankfully subtle, allowing the croissant’s buttery notes to shine alongside the delicate crab flavour. It was one of the better savoury options.

Variety of sweet croissant flavours at Hazukido including Premium Durian Custard and Hazelnut Chocolate

Among the sweets, the Hazelnut Chocolate Croissant ($7.50) was indulgent but a little messy, drenched in thick chocolate sauce. It reminded me of a Ferrero Rocher but in croissant form.

The Original Bolo Croissant ($5.90) had a nice contrast between the crisp, sugary top and the soft pastry layers, but it felt more like a gimmick than a must-have.

While the branding and presentation are polished, the experience itself leans towards average, with some hits and misses.
