Here’s another Nanyang-style cafe serving the local favourites.
Tina’s Café at Everton Park is a cosy little spot which has taken over the space left behind by O Happi Place.
Opened by the team behind Edith Patisserie, the café is a tribute to the founder’s late mother, adding a heartfelt touch to the whole experience.
The place has a homely charm – nothing too fancy, with an aesthetic that leans more towards practicality.
The smell of freshly brewed kopi and toasted bread hits you as soon as you step inside.
The menu keeps it simple with classic local breakfast sets, hearty mains, and a few surprises at reasonable prices.
The Nanyang Breakfast Sets include the Homemade Kaya Butter Toast Set ($6.00), Orh Nee Butter Toast Set ($6.50), Peanut Butter Toast Set ($6.30), French Toast with Kaya ($6.50), and Kaya Cheese Toast Set ($6.50).
Each set is served with soft-boiled eggs and a choice of kopi or teh.
I had the Orh Nee Butter Toast ($6.50) – an item made popular by SuuKee Coffee.
Even though I wished that the outer bread layer was slightly more crisp, the smooth, sweet yam paste paired well with the buttery toast.
While yam can sometimes taste overly rich, the café got the balance just right.
For a more filling meal, the All-Day Breakfast options feature Tina’s Breakfast Platter ($14.80), Eggs with Bacon ($9.60), Eggs with Ham ($9.60), and Eggs with Sausage ($10.20).
Unfortunately, the Tina’s Breakfast Platter ($14.80) was a bit of a letdown.
The hashbrown lacked the crispiness you’d expect, seeming like it was quickly deep-fried straight from the freezer without enough time to get properly golden and crunchy.
The bacon was another disappointment – chewy and rubbery rather than crispy, which made it less enjoyable.
The rest of the platter, including the eggs, sausage, and toast, was decent but nothing particularly memorable.
When it comes to drinks, it’s all about the classics. The kopi is strong and aromatic – nothing too complicated
You can expect some cakes from Edith Patisserie here, including Lychee Rose Slice ($8.90), Ondeh Ondeh Slice ($8.90), Yuzu Osmanthus Slice ($8.90), and Chocolate Fudge Slice ($8.90).
A popular choice is Ondeh Ondeh Slice ($8.90) with a light fragrance and desiccated coconut that pairs well with the rich gula melaka filling.
Tina’s Café isn’t trying to be the trendiest spot around, but it delivers decent food at fair prices.
Not perfect, but it’s got a little something that makes you want to come back.
