New Hope Noodles 新望云吞面 is a relatively new stall in the buzzing Chinatown Complex Food Centre.
I spotted the Wanton Mee stall in the green zone of the hawker centre, which is the relatively quieter side.
(The name reminded me a little of Good Hope Noodle in Hong Kong.)
New Hope offers just a few options: dry Wanton Mee, soup Wanton Mee, and Wanton Soup, all priced at an easy $4.
It’s affordable, straightforward, and worth a try if you’re in the Chinatown area.
The dry Wanton Mee is probably their highlight.
The thin egg noodles are springy with that firm “QQ” bite, which makes every mouthful satisfying.
Tossed in a savoury chilli sauce and fragrant oil, the flavours have a nice balance – nothing too overwhelming but enough to keep you coming back for another bite.
There is not a lot of sauce though, and it reminded me slightly of the Thai-style ones.
To me, the highlight is the wantons – generous with fresh, sweet pork filling.
They come stuffed with a well-seasoned meat wrapped in silky, tender skins.
You get three per serving, and honestly, they’re one of the best parts of the meal.
They’ve nailed the texture here – soft but with just enough chew to keep it interesting.
No funky porky aftertaste either, which is always a win.
Now, about the char siew – it’s a bit hit or miss.
If you’re into the lean, thin-sliced type, you’ll like it.
But if you’re a fan of fattier, caramelised char siew with that sticky sweetness, it might not be what you’re hoping for.
So why the name “New Hope”?
One thing that makes New Hope Noodles stand out is its backstory.
It’s run as a social enterprise by experienced Christian hawkers, who are using the stall to train others in the trade.
From cooking, food safety, to running a business, they’re helping people gain practical skills while keeping Singapore’s hawker culture alive.
Some people may wonder about the portion size. It does look small, but I think it’s mainly due to the size of the bowl it’s served in.
If I’m being honest, this isn’t the kind of place that’s trying to blow your mind with some crazy twist on Wanton Mee. But that’s not what New Hope Noodles is about.
For $4, you get a solid, tasty bowl of Wanton Noodles, and knowing it’s all part of a good cause makes it even better.

Hi Daneil,
This is a good review. It is making me hungry and I am looking forward to trying out this Wanton Mee soon. My favourite dish is Wanton Mee as well 🙂
Thank you. Hope you enjoy this Wanton Mee too. As it is located at a more obscure side of the food centre, hope it gets some support. 🙂
