133 Jalan Bukit Merah isn’t exactly the place you’d expect to stumble upon a café like The Alchemy Tea.

Tucked under an old residential block and flanked by a minimart and a traditional barber shop, the area has a pretty low-key, everyday vibe.

With its sleek black exterior and modern touches, it quietly stands out, almost like a hidden spot you’d want to keep to yourself.

Inside, the décor is understated but stylish. The dark tones of the walls and furniture give it a slightly European vibe, balanced by warm lighting from illuminated arches.

Wait? What does it sell again?

Milk tea, ice cream and waffles.

Milk tea options include Black Tea ($3.20), Tie Guan Yin Tea ($3.20), Milk Tea ($4.20), and flavoured selections like Brown Sugar Milk Tea ($4.80) and Hazelnut Milk Tea ($4.80).

For something more indulgent, the Fresh Milk range features drinks like Brown Sugar Latte ($4.80) and even Durian Coconut Latte ($7.20).

Taste-wise “Not too bad”, I thought. But it will be tough to compete with the major players.

I was more keen on the ice cream, ranging from classic favourites to more adventurous options.

Choices include timeless flavours such as Vanilla, Chocolate, and Strawberry, as well as more interesting ones like Earl Grey, Speculoos Biscoff, Hojicha, Hazelnut Chocolate Rocher and Peppermint Dark Chocolate.

The dessert menu boasts Belgian waffles, including Classic Belgian Waffles ($8.20), Chocolate Belgian Waffles ($9.80), and Durian Belgian Waffles ($12.80).

They recommended the Durian, but I decided to go for a safer Yam Belgian Waffles ($9.80 with a scoop of ice cream).

Honestly speaking, it was better than what I expected.

The waffle is crisp on the outside, with a soft and slightly chewy taro interior.

The smooth ice cream complements it well, with its creamy texture and subtle sweetness.

What makes finding The Alchemy Tea so interesting is that it’s like a little surprise in the middle of a practical, no-frills neighbourhood.

  1. The Alchemy Tea looks like such a unique and cozy spot! I love how they’ve combined tea with such creative flavors. It reminds me of another place I recently explored—The Alchemist.

Thanks for sharing this review—I’ll definitely add The Alchemy Tea to my must-visit list!
