Despite being a relatively new stall, one of the most popular shops at Food Republic Wisma Atria is Ah Yen Traditional Fried Pork, the famous Sabah brand’s first outlet in Singapore.

Starting off as a stall in 1940 in Sandakan Market and dubbed as the mini Hong Kong of Sabah, Ah Yen continues to delight fans all the way from Sabah to Singapore at Food Republic Wisma Atria.

On the menu are various noodle choices such as Sandakran Fried Pork Kuey Teow, Sarawak Laksa, Ah Yen Signature Kuey Teow, Salt & Pepper Chicken Noodles, to Century Egg Dumpling Noodles Soup.

Each bowl is priced from $6.50 to $12.50.

Highly recommended is the Noodles Set Meal ($11.50), complete with Century Egg Dumplings, Iceberg Lettuce with Oyster Sauce, and your choice of Sandakan Fried Pork Noodles or Salt & Pepper Chicken Noodles.

The Sandakan Fried Pork Noodles ($6.50 for a la carte) is a signature dish you don’t want to miss.

The tender Hakka pork cutlet coated in a secret recipe batter with fermented beancurd sauce and then deep-fried till crispy.

Accordingly, only fresh Malaysian pork is used, marinated for hours, then doused in a special flour mix to make the pieces very crispy.

I liked how the pork cutlet was expertly cut into thin slices, but you could still get that crisp contrasted with tender meat.

ORder yours with kuey teow (rice noodles) or thin noodles. Both were good, but I preferred the mee kia marginally better for the springy BBQ bite.
