Omote at Thomson Plaza which was previously known as Sushiro, is popular for its range of donburi and value-for-money Japanese food.

Over the years, it has fine-tuned its menu and is now more known for its progressive Japanese cuisine with an Asian influence.

It has also opened an outlet at Raffles City basement, a short walk from City Hall MRT station.

Other than the signature classics, there are dishes with “Korean notes of inspiration” at this new outlet.

Signature bowls include the Umami Soy Chirashi ($18.80), Truffle Roasted Garlic Chirashi ($23.80), Tamago-Mentai Chirashi ($19.80), Salmon Ikura Chirashi ($23.80), to Grilled Unagi Chirashi ($25.80).

Omote is best known for its take on Bara Chirashi with its Omote Chirashi ($15.80), with salmon, tuna, octopus, prawn and salmon roe in a palm-sized sushi rice bowl.

Fresh sashimi cut into small bite-sized cubes for easy consumption, while fragrant sesame oil, umami-ness, and tinge of sweetness, made this a comforting bowl.

If you are up to it, go for the “Second-Gen” Super Mount Chirashi ($38.80) which comes with a mini hill of assorted marinated diced seafood on sushi rice.

Other than that, there are also Sushi Rolls with Superstar Lobster ($15.80), Salmon Expression ($13.80), Korean Dynamite ($14.80), and Lucky Strike ($15.80).

Each coming with four pieces, you would find the rolls generally drenched in rich, heavy-tasting sauces. Accordingly, customers here prefer strong flavours in their food.

During a recent visit, I found some interesting Local Exclusive dishes, such as Lobster Hokkien Mee ($24.80), Crispy Chilli Crab ($28.80), Prawn Ramen ($19.80), and Asari Garlic Flambe ($18.80).

If you are the type who likes your Hokkien Mee rich-tasting, saucy and on the wetter side, then this may be for you.

With the incorporation of crustacean and black pork stock, I found the overall dish rather intense after a while, and getting a friend or two to share may be the answer.
