You may have noticed that popular Korean café concept dal.komm COFFEE and Coffee Bar at Marina Square now spots a brand-new look, along with expanded space and menu.
Indeed more instagrammable and homely at the same time.
dal.komm COFFEE has rebranded themselves in their native South Korea and now in Singapore with a fresh new look.
(There are plans for the other two stores at The Centrepoint and Funan to be updated in time to come.)
The Marina Square outlet currently displays the updated logo and colours with contemporary and inviting interiors.
What I liked is there are many sections to the space, with some parts designed like a living room concept for customers to feel more comfortable and right at home.
As before, the dal.komm COFFEE brand continues to create a hip ambience where music, design, food, and drink work in synchrony for an elevated café experience.
Further adding to the appeal of the revamped outlet is that it now boasts a full kitchen.
From behind its doors, chefs send out modern-day renditions of Korean meals, snacks, street food, and desserts.
From Korean-style Pasta, Samyang Ramyun, Buldak Fried Chicken, Kimchi Cheese Pizza, Ssamjang Chicken Cruffin, to Injeolmi Toast, here are some of the dal.komm COFFEE highlights:
Buldak Crab Pasta ($18.90)
Taking inspiration from Korean ingredients and cuisine, the recommended Buldak Crab Pasta is a newly introduced spicy pasta dish.
The pasta gets its fieriness from the buldak sauce. Made from gochugaru, Korean chilli flakes and more, Buldak sauce has a heat quotient and surprising smokiness.
A generous helping of moist crabmeat chunks assists in keeping some of the piquancy at bay.
I thought that the spiciness was still pretty manageable, yet still retain a zesty kick in every bite.
Creamy Rose Pasta ($17.90)
In case you’re wondering, the “rose” does not have anything to do with the flower.
Instead, it refers to the pinkish colour of the dish derived from mixing the creamy white sauce with a red-hot sweet and savoury Buldak sauce.
As a result of this combination, the pasta has a full-bodied creaminess and fragrant tang, completed with shiitake mushrooms, turkey ham, onions, tomatoes and garlic.
If you do not fancy spice, there are also the Tomato Garlic Pasta ($12.90) and the Creamy Carbonara ($15.90).
Hot & Spicy Tteokbokki ($11.90)
On the menu are three styles of Tteokbokki – Hot & Spicy ($11.90), Creamy Rose ($13.90) and Carbonara Tteokbokki ($12.90).
At dal.komm COFFEE, the chefs cooks up the Tteokbokki on order, guaranteeing a comforting, warm bowl when it arrives on the table.
The classic choice would be the Hot & Spicy with chewy rice cakes cooked in a spicy, savoury and partly-sweet Gochujang sauce.
You can also top up with some Gimmari (+$2 for 3 pcs). The seaweed rolls have a crunchy shell obtained by deep frying glass noodles rolled into gim – Korean seaweed sheets. Dip them into the gravy for a crispy and delicious bite.
Carbonara Tteokbokki ($12.90)
If you would prefer something with no spiciness, the Carbonara Tteokbokki is an excellent option.
In it, the tube-shaped rice cakes are cooked with creamy carbonara-style sauce.
Fried with turkey ham and shiitake mushrooms, the dish is further topped with a torched cheese for more indulgence.
Kimslaw Fries ($11.90)
Kimslaw is basically kimchi coleslaw. However, along with the fries, it becomes a more addictive snack.
Not only does the crispiness of the fries juxtapose the slaw in texture, but its savouriness helps balance the spiciness of the kimchi.
Crunchy Oatmeal French Toast ($12.90)
This brunch dish consists of thick yet soft toast dipped in egg batter. However, it is then coated in oatmeal for a textural crunch.
Drizzle over some condensed milk for added sweetness.
Berrylicious French Toast ($13.90)
Fluffy, light, and packed with fruity zinginess, the gooey berry compote can be drizzled on top of the soft sliced toast.
You get that rich bready, custard-like taste with a tangy trace.
Honey Hotteok ($3.90/pc)
Hotteok is a South Korean street dessert, particularly loved by families and consumed mainly during the winter months.
Interesting to note that dal.komm COFFEE actually makes the Hotteok here fresh-from-scratch.
The easy-to-eat, chewy snack has a slightly golden-brown crispy exterior, and molten brown sugar fillings – so do eat while it is still hot.
Tip: top-up with a scoop of ice cream (+$4) to experience that warm-cold sensation.
Churros Stick with Injeolmi Powder ($9.90)
East meets west in this delightfully simple street dessert.
Churros are one of Spain’s most popular dishes. At the café, though, they are prepared with Korean injeolmi powder (injeolmi is a type of Korean rice cake).
When served with churros, the injeolmi gives the otherwise sweet snack an aromatic and nutty taste.
Injeolmi Bingsu ($16.90)
This Injeolmi Bingsu comes in a loaded cup with light, soft, and milky ice shavings embellished with sweet red bean paste.
The carefully placed injeolmi rice cakes on top have a chewy texture. In contrast, a dusting of roasted soybean powder gives the refreshing melt-in-your-mouth dessert a nutty taste.
For coffee aficionados and previous patrons of dal.komm COFFEE, the outlet continues to serve a range of hot and cold customizable brews, including favourites like the Rose Latte and Affogato.
As for non-caffeinated beverages, the café sells flavoured ice-blended drinks, teas, specials like the Honey Grapefruit, Strawberry Cube, Raspberry Milkshake, and sodas.
You would also notice some merchandise that dal.komm COFFEE has launched, featuring its self-branded coffee products developed around customer preferences.
These include coffee beans and signature coffee blends in capsules, stick coffee, and drip bags.
Shop from a range from Colombia Single Origin Capsule, Signature Blend Capsule, Arabica Blend Stick, Signature Drip Bags to specially packaged gift sets – for customers to dine and shop at one place.
