Sunset Way at Clement Street 11 has this easy-going almost rustic charm where residents nearby have a number of choices to have coffee and slow down.
Talking about café and bakery shops in this vicinity, there are Olla Specialty Coffee, Burnt Cones Gelato, Hundred Acre Creamery, Dawn’s Gelateria and Café, The Daily Scoop, Fredo’s Baker – and all of them have their unique character and strength.

I happened to spot Sunryse Coffee Bar, though some would have missed it because they are located within and next to a hair salon.
There is a part of me which loves featuring the hidden gems that go completely under-the-radar that most websites do not write or talk about.
This humble little coffee space opened with a simple but passionate goal of sharing their love for coffee with the community.
Why the name “Sunryse”?
As most people drink coffee first thing in the morning when the sun rises, they decided to name the café with a small play of the name.
There is also the owners’ love for Japan – which is the land of the rising sun, that influences their concept.
As to why next to a hair salon, they wanted to have a lifestyle concept so that they can build a community of people that share the same love at Sunset Way.
They hope that customers find a space to escape the hustle and bustle of city living while enjoying a cuppa and enjoying some self-care with others.
Hair salon customers get to enjoy awesome coffee especially during longer appointments.
As this is a small space, there are a few chairs outside and a little bench, though not that kind of place you can eat and sit for long.
The coffee specialty shop offers the usual Black ($4), Flat White ($5), Latte ($5), Mocha ($5), Piccolo ($4) and Magic ($5).
The beans (which are seasonal by the way) are sourced from The Community Coffee, which has gentle-sweet apple-like acidity, creamy mouthfeel, and quite balanced.
A good cup to find in this area.
There is also seasonal filter coffee ($6) with beans from Peru, Columbia and Brazil, and with new filter coffee options almost every month to keep things fresh.
Interesting to note that they also offer customisable workshops. For example, some customers want to work on certain latte art, or want help with learning how to use their new coffee machines.
They are also working towards opening a bigger dine-in café, so stay tuned.
