Zion Road Food Centre may not be too big a hawker centre, but there are many famous stalls that Singapore foodies will queue up for.

They include Kang’s Wanton Noodle, No. 18 Zion Road Fried Kway Teow, Zion Road Fresh Taste Big Prawn Noodle, Lau Goh Teochew Chye Thow Kway, and Boon Tong Kee Kway Chap Braised Duck.

Even though Ah Wang La Mian Xiao Long Bao 阿汪拉面小笼包上海锅贴 may not be a well-publicised hawker stall, its line does not ‘lose out’ to the other popular stalls there, attracting regulars for their Chinese-style La Mian, Dumplings and Soups.

It moved several times within the same place (three times?), and is now located at Unit 22.

Ah Wang La specialises in Guo Tie or Pan-Fried Dumplings ($7 for 10 pc), Xiao Long Bao ($5.50 for 7 pc), Steamed Pork and Leek Dumplings ($6 for 10 pc), and Szechuan Spicy Wanton ($6 for 10 pcs).

The dumplings are all hand-made in the morning, packed with fillings such as minced pork and chives.

The Guo Tie Dumplings are my usual to-go-for here. These had thin and crisp outside layer, while the fillings of minced meat and vegetables were juicy.

The stock within might just spurt out if you eat them hot.

The Xiao Long Bao were not bad too, while the skin might not be as thin and silky as those offered by the ‘big boys’, they were still moderately plump and juicy.

(Ah-oh, DTF is just opposite at the mall.)

For you would prefer something more substantial, you can try the noodle dishes including Dan Dan Noodles ($5), Beef Noodle Soup ($5), Braised Pork Ribs Noodles ($5), Zha Jiang Mian ($4.50), Sour & Spicy Noodles ($4) or any of the other La Mian offerings.

I usually enjoy the Zha Jiang Mian ($4.50) with chewy and thin long noodles topped with a simmered thick sauce with diced pork.

The fermented soybean paste used had a pleasant sweet and earthy flavour without being too salty. (Not sure if it is typical, but I would usually add a bit of their chilli sauce to give it a good mix.)

I noted that the Hot & Spicy Soup ($2.50) seemed popular as it was often sold out.
