Hjh Maimunah (pronounced as ‘Hajah’) is certainly one of Singapore’s favourite Nasi Padang eatery.
They are also listed in the Michelin Guide Singapore with a Bib Gourmand.
They have a few outlets around Singapore, at Jalan Pisang Jalan Pisang, Tampines Mall (kopitiam foodcourt), Joo Chiat Road, Heong Long Building, and City Square Mall.
The good news is they also just opened in the North at Woodlands Koufu HQ food court.
Established in 1992 by Mdm Mahiran & Mr Didih, their objective is for foodies to have easy access to fresh and tasty Indonesian and Malay cuisine.
Signature dishes include Juicy Sundanese Grilled Chicken, Sambal Goreng, Beef Rendang and Oxtail Soup; and the foodcourt stall also serves Lontong and Mee Bakso – noodles with beef balls and vegetables in beef broth.
On the menu is the signature Nasi Sambal Goreng Set with a medley of ingredients including sambal goreng jawa, sambal sotong, paru, begedil (potato patty), serunding (spiced grated coconut) and sambal tumis (fried chilli paste).
For convenience, there are other sets such as Paru (beef lungs), Chicken, Fish, Beef Rendang, Seafood and Vegetable Set which comes with sides and rice.
If you are craving for some Nasi Padang, top-selling items to include with your rice are Ayam Bakar Sunda aka BBQ Chicken, Beef Rendang, and BBQ Selar Fish.
I am a fan of its spiced Beef Rendang cooked till tender, fragrant with a touch of sweetness.
Also look out for the Signature Lemak Siput Sedut, a type of snails (available seasonally) cooked in coconut-based gravy.
