You may wonder why an unusual name like “Tom’s Cityzoom”?

Tom’s Cityzoom Mee Pok Tar is found at Ghim Moh Food Centre, and used to call their signature dish “Fish Chor Mee”.

The owner cum chef behind the stall is the Tom Loo, a diploma graduate in computer engineering, who loves food (and hates an office job) so much that he took the plunge in opening up this stall.

It used to be located at Lengkok Bahru, then moved to Ghim Moh – challenging considering there is the well-known Thye Hong Fishball Noodles already there.

The juicy handmade fishcake and fishballs are supplied by Tom’s uncle, whose shop is called “Citizoom”, though the stall’s name is later changed to “Cityzoom”.

The hawker stall opens very early morning at 5:30am, serving customers its signature bowl called the “Standard” ($3.50).

You can add on other ingredients such as the fishball ($0.40), Wanton ($0.40) and Fish Cake ($1.50).

This “Fish Chor Mee” is inspired by the local favourite of Bak Chor Mee. Instead of the usual minced pork, pork balls and mushroom, a bowl comes with fish ball, special fish cake, and fried fish wanton.

The springy mee pok which took Tom 4 years to perfect his recipe, was drenched in a tasty vinegary-mildly-spicy sauce, topped with mouth-watering slices of fishcake.

Some customers may find the seasoning on the lighter side.

The accompanying soup was also light and slightly sweet, added with some gogi berries.

The fishcake which is my favourite component in the bowl, contains a little leek, and is only cut into slices just before serving so as to retain its moisture within.
