The Ang Mo Kio Central has welcomed quite a number of cafes from 82Bunsik, Apiary, to Brew & Co., making the area vibrant with more 3rd wave coffee and dessert choices.

Dessert café Mister Joes has landed in the Ang Mo Kio neighbourhood as well, delivering ice cream, granola, cake and coffee in a laid-back setting.

It is not that straight-forward to find though, hidden within Block 710A (though right within AMK Central) itself.

After you find the place, you would find an instagrammable (okay, starting to hate this word myself lol) pink café space with cosy interiors.

The friendly barista will whip up a cup of coffee for you, done your way, whether you prefer Espresso Macchiato ($4.50), Latte ($5) or Mocha ($6) – you can even ask for ‘animal art’ on your cup.

Coffee beans are sourced from various places, with a single origin of medium dark roast from Round Boy Roasters, and a blend from Six Four Coffee House – rich and full-bodied with dark chocolate and nutty notes.

Sip on the well-extracted coffee with a pastry or dessert of your choice.

Available are sourced-cakey items like the Lemon Loaf ($5), Mini Basque Cheesecake ($5.50), and Salted Caramel Cinnamon Roll ($4.50).

The main thing I thought that those on display looked on the dry side, so perhaps they could find a way to better present in a more enticing manner.

If customers do not look closely enough, they may not realise this café also sells ice cream as well. You would usually imagine a counter of colourful flavours displayed, but there is none here.

The ice cream selection is of quite a good variety though. (They are probably sourced, and tasted suspiciously like Carrara Café’s, but I could be wrong.)

I spotted the Hokkaido Milk flavour, which has gotten popular these days for its simple and smooth taste.

The most interesting flavour is the Soybean and Dough Fritters, the quintessential breakfast combination in ice cream form.

To me, it was an enjoyable flavour of soymilk with a taste of fried dough.

Other curious creations are the Yuzu Charcoal Sorbet, and Crysanthemum with Cocoa Nibs. Not only can you pair the ice cream with a waffle, you can also have it with a cookie, brownie and even a croffle.

I didn’t see the prices displayed clearly, and had a surprise/shock when the price of a waffles with two scoops of ice cream was $9 (GST and service charge inclusive). Wow.

Mister Joes is more than just a neighbourhood dessert café. When you head down, it is impossible miss the all-pink interior and the heavily Instagrammable aesthetics of the shop space.
