It has been 7 years since FatCat first opened in Bedok, known for their charcoal waffles with salted egg sauce.

The folks have finally opened their 2nd outlet with a new minimalist and clean outlook, decked in wood and white tone instead of their darker vibes over at Bedok.

There are more cafes opening in Kovan these days, such as the newly opened Eclipse and
Naked Ice Cream nearby.

A single bar counter features 18 ice cream flavours, freshly made ice cream cones and a white Synesso coffee machine.

Prices start from $4.50 for a single scoop ice cream and $8.50 for double scoops, with additional $1 for premium flavours.

16 oz pints are available at $18 and additional $4 for premium flavours such as Chocolate Old Fashioned, Black Forest, Mulled Wine Spiced Pear, Hokkaido Milk and Pistachio.

Unlike their outlet at Bedok with a dine-in seating area, their takeaway space here doesn’t serve their signature waffle on the menu.

Instead, there were freshly baked cones (+$1) with toffee added for an extra sweetness and fragrance.

I liked their Christmas special flavour – Mulled Wine Spiced Pear with pear cubes soaked in red wine that is evidently distinctive with the refreshing alcoholic taste.

The mulled spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg, dried orange and lemon peel add a nice festive touch.

Both the Watermelon Soju and Sea Salt Matcha were still consistent in their texture, smooth and creamy without being icy.

The watermelon soju was definitely a refreshing treat in Singapore’s hot climate, whereas the sea salt added a pleasant twist to the usual earthly and robust taste of the matcha.

Apart from their signature ice cream, FATCAT also serves specialty coffee here using a 2-beans blend (Ethiopian and Colombian) roasted by Bearded Bella.

The usual espresso-based drinks can be found: Espresso (Single $3, Double $4), Black ($4), White ($5) and Mocha ($5.50).

Something unique and interesting at FatCat are their Cold Brews, in fact, they added their in-house ice cream to create the Milkshake Cold Brews ($8) available in 4 different flavours: Hokkaido Milk, Mocha, Matcha and seasonal Peppermint Choc.

The Matcha Milkshake Cold Brew ($8) is probably one of the better ones I had of late – rich and creamy, distinctive in vegetal notes without being too bitter.

For those who prefer caffeine-free drinks, there are Kombucha ($7.50), Kochi Yuzu Soda ($7), Chocolate ($6.50) and Red Velvet Latte ($6.50) too.

Words of cautious: the Kochi Yuzu Soda ($7) is refreshing but very fruity and citrusy in flavour.

Glad to see FATCAT expanding after all these years and I believed Kovan residents will enjoy the sweet treats in the hood.
