Alto Cafe is a botanical theme cafe located within Bayshore Park Condominium at Siglap.
Yes, this is ANOTHER new cafe in the East Coast.
While Alto Café is located within a private condominium, the public can still gain access by informing the main guard house.
However, that can be pretty confusing for first timers (especially if you are not an Eastier) to get there, with 3 condominiums (The Bayshore, Bayshore Park and Costa Del Sol) located next to one another.
In fact, there is only one single route (Bayshore road) leading to the Bayshore Park guard house. Doesn’t’t help that the nearest bus stop along the main road is 2km away.
Do bring along your personal identification documents such as NRIC or driving license as those are required for registration at the guardhouse before entering the premise.
The 17-seater space is like a little oasis on its own, filled with potted plants and wooden furnitures in a comfortable setting.
Using meats from Halal-certified sources, the cafe offers usual brunch food such as All-Day Brekkie ($14.90 – $16.90), Sandwiches ($15.90), Salads ($14.90 – $15.90), Pasta ($13.90 – $15.90), Croissantwich ($13.90) and Waffles ($15.90).
Some of the recommended dishes include Avo Smashed on Sourdough with Pomegranate ($17.80 with pomegranate add-ons), Papa Rosti ($15.90), Chickira ($15.90), The Funguy ($15.90) and Salmon Khan ($15.90).
Their Savoury Waffles ($15.90) caught my attention, and came with a choice of salmon, chicken or portobello mushroom.
2 slices of Belgian waffles are nicely stacked with crushed nuts, scrambled egg and pea sprouts.
The salmon also came beautifully rolled into the shape of a rose sprinkled with pepper.
Scrambled egg was considered nicely executed with smooth and creamy texture, lightly seasoned with a hint of pepper.
The Belgian waffle may not be suitable for everyone which was slightly too sweet.
Texture-wise, it was crispy and crunchy on the outside; and more cake-like, fluffy and moist on the inside.
The waffles were then drizzled with tartar-like sauce with a lemon zest for a more refreshing punch.
Overall, it was well-balanced with a combination of chewy Belgian waffle, crunchy almond nuts and smooth, creamy scrambled egg.
Pastries are all on display on the table with Santa’s Carrot Cake ($8), Fudgy Chocolate Cake ($8), Eggless Semolim Cream Pie ($6), Brownie ($5), Plain Croissant ($3.50), Pain Au Chocolat ($4.50) and Almond Croissant ($4.50).
The Santa’s Carrot Cake ($8) came with a dash of cinnamon powder that adds some complexity to the walnuts, raisins, pineapple, dried flowers with a soft and moist texture.
In addition, the cream cheese frosting was not as rich and jelak (cloying) as I thought.
Using coffee beans from 3-beans-blend (El Salvador, Ethiopia and Indonesia) roasted by Jewel Coffee for their espresso-based drinks contains tasting notes of floral, cherry and toffee.
The usual Espresso ($3.50), Long Black ($3.50), Flat White/ Latte/ Cappuccino ($4.50) and Mocha ($5) are available, with interesting options such as Dirty Chai ($5.50) and Dirty Rose ($5.50).
My cup of Flat White ($4.50) was smooth, milky and robust, though a tad burnt with a slight hint of bitterness.
Bayshore Park is known to be a “holiday resort” due to its location, facilities and space, but no eatery before this.
It is a nice addition for Alto Cafe to be part of the East Coast (Café) Plan and open within a condominium compound, providing a space and cafe food options for not just the residents but for cafe hoppers.
