At 252 South Bridge Road, look for the mural on the wall, then the white door that takes you upstairs to MOZmoji 陌迹.
This is not the sort of café you stumble into by accident. You have to know it from social media (or reading blogs like this).
Upstairs, the space opens into a quiet room filled with ceramics, wooden furniture, old cabinets and soft natural light.
MOZmoji is part café, part ceramic shop, with specialty coffee, hand-brewed coffee, desserts and handmade tableware on display.
The shelves are lined with cups, plates and bowls, some playful and colourful, others more muted and earthy.
And these ceramic pieces are also available for purchase, with prices indicated below each item.
For desserts, there are items such as Cotton Cheesecake ($12.80), Matcha Strawberry Cake ($15.80), Soy Milk Cheesecake ($14.80), Black Tea Basque ($14.80) and Pistachio Basque, though availability may change.
One of the nicest touches is that you can pick the cup or plate you want from a selection before your drink and cake are served.
It makes the experience feel more personal.
The Matcha Strawberry Cake ($15.80) looked lovely, with a pale green matcha cheesecake layer, fresh strawberries at the base and a light buttery crust.
It is made with premium Marukyu Koyamaen matcha, and the texture was smooth and creamy with gentle earthy notes. That said, I wished the matcha flavour had more depth.
The Cotton Cheesecake ($12.80) was softer and lighter, with a smooth, airy texture and a clean cheese flavour.
My friend said it reminded him of yoghurt, and I would not disagree.
It works if you prefer desserts that are not too sweet, but it is not something I would specially return for on its own.
The menu includes espresso-based drinks such as Espresso ($5.80), Americano ($6.80), Latte ($7.80), Piccolo ($7.80) and Mocha ($7.80).
Signature drinks include Salted Cocoa Latte ($12.80), Pistachio Vienna ($12.80), Black Sesame Vienna ($12.80), Matcha Vienna ($11.80) and Hojicha Vienna ($11.80).
For the coffee, I went with a Colombia El Carmen Village Arnulfo Cuellar Geisha Washed, with tasting notes of jasmine, nectarine, pomelo and oolong tea.
It was light, clean and quietly floral, with a brighter fruitiness that came through more as it cooled.
For me, MOZmoji works better as a mood than as a cake or coffee destination.
The real charm comes from the hidden second-floor setting, the quiet atmosphere, and the handmade ceramics.
I went on a day when it was relatively empty, which probably helped. The space had a calmness that is hard to find in busier cafés, especially around Chinatown.
Of course, this may change once more people find out about it. A quiet café is only quiet until a table decides to share their entire week at speaker volume.
As the café is still new, opening hours at MOZmoji 陌迹 may change while the team gets a hang of things, so it is safer to check before heading down.
