Alexandra Village Food Centre has seen a bit of a shuffle recently.

I was disappointed to find that Wei Min The Famous Wanton Noodle 為民馳名雲吞麵 at unit #01-37 had closed down, as it was a reliable spot for a classic bowl of Wanton Mee.

However, while walking towards the front of the hawker centre, I spotted the familiar faces of the same hawkers at unit #01-87.

Seeing them back in action was a pleasant surprise.

They are now operating under the name Tong Le Wanton Mee 同乐云吞面, serving a very similar menu that built their reputation.

Their signatures include the Char Siew Wanton Noodle ($4.80) and the Curry Fried Chicken Cutlet Hor Fun ($5.80).

For those who want more variety, there are side dishes like Fried Wanton ($4.80), Soup Wanton ($4.80), and Fried Dumplings ($5.20).

For the signature Char Siew Wanton Noodle ($4.80), the ingredients felt quite generous for the price, arriving with thick slices of char siew and both soup and fried wantons.

The noodles were notably springy and bouncy, coated in a light yet flavourful dark sauce that did not overpower the natural taste of the egg noodles.

I felt this dish represented an interesting cross between typical Singaporean and Malaysian styles.

It seemed to have a blend of 40% Singaporean and 60% Malaysian influences, particularly in the sauce and noodle texture.

While wanton noodle is the main item, I felt the Curry Fried Chicken Cutlet Hor Fun ($5.80) could be the true star.

You can also opt for a mee kia version which gives a springy bite.

This dish featured Malaysian-style rice noodles (similar to Ipoh-style hor fun?) served with a crispy fried chicken cutlet, all smothered in a flavourful curry sauce.

While the curry was generally more soupy rather than thick, it worked quite well with the noodles.
