LiHO TEA is back with another creative launch just in time for the festive season.
This time they are bringing a slice of Thailand to Singapore with their new Thai Prosperitea series.
The collection features three handcrafted drinks that aim to give the traditional Thai tea brew a modern and artisanal glow-up. And without that cloying sweetness.
What sets this apart is the Thai tea itself, a dual-origin blend that combines both Thai Black Tea with Yunnan Large-Leaf tea.
Good to know: The tea is hand-brewed from scratch daily (instead of relying on a pre-mix), allowing its natural fragrance and depth to come through more clearly.
Instead of the usual sweet, syrup-heavy profile often associated with Thai tea, I found this version coming across cleaner and more aromatic.
The tea flavour is also more pronounced, which makes a noticeable difference once you start sipping through the drinks.
Let’s take a closer look at the three drinks in the Thai Prosperitea lineup:
No. 101 Thai Tea Cloud ($5.90 M, $6.90 L)
Looking at the cup, the most striking feature is the thick layer of white cream foam topped with a fine dusting of cocoa powder. (Ask for the drink not to be sealed if you want to slowly savour that layer.)
I found the “cloud” layer to be very substantial and airy. When I took a sip, the mild saltiness of the foam immediately hit my palate before the sweetness of the tea followed.
The velvety texture is quite satisfying, but I must warn you that a cream moustache is almost guaranteed.
While I usually suggest going for a lower sugar level with bubble tea, the “master’s recommendation” here is actually 100% sugar (or Stevia). This level is designed to balance the earthy tea base with the creamy “cloud” foam.
No. 102 Thai Tea Smoothie ($5.90 M, $6.90 L)
The Thai Tea Smoothie comes with a dome lid that is literally packed to the brim with crunchy Korean popcorn.
The drink brings back memories of childhood snacks, especially with the added crunch of popcorn.
I personally enjoyed the contrast between the icy, smooth tea and the toasted crunch of the popcorn. However, I found it quite a challenge to eat the popcorn without a few pieces escaping onto the table.
Tip: You really have to eat the toppings quickly because they lose their crunch once they soak up the moisture from the smoothie.
No. 103 Thai Tea with Brown Sugar Pearl ($5.20 M, $6.20 L)
For the pearl lovers, the No. 103 Thai Tea with Brown Sugar Pearl is the most ‘classic’ and safe option to get.
You can see beautiful dark swirls where the warm brown sugar drizzle meets the chilled tea (loved the warm-and-cold contrast).
The balance ratio works well here, and you can taste that obvious deep, smoky caramel flavour.
The pearls are slow-cooked, with a chew that stays pleasantly bouncy. Yums
Well…if you are watching your calorie intake, you can even opt for Stevia as a natural sweetener (for the above 2 drinks as well).
