Of course if you are dining at Tim Ho Wan, the must-have is the Signature Barbecue Pork Bun, known to many as the “Best BBQ Pork Buns” around with its delightful combination of textures.
Staying true to the Hong Kong recipe, these buns are made to replicate the original pork bun flavours closely, freshly baked with a crumbly and fluffy crust.
The filling uses Cantonese style barbecue pork that leans sweet and savoury, cooked until tender and glossy, then sealed inside the bun so it stays moist as it bakes.
As for the newly introduced buns, the familiar buttery crust stays exactly the same, crumbly on the outside and soft within, which already sets expectations high.
Breaking it open releases a gentle truffle aroma.
As for the taste, the chicken filling was tender and moist, and comparatively less sweet and more fragrant.
I find that it does not replace the original, but offers a indulgent alternative that makes ordering another basket feel justified.
