Whiskdom at Chinatown sits in a row of colourful shophouses, its bright blue signboard standing out against pastel walls.
This is its 5th outlet? Wow.
Outside, small tables with blue chairs line the walkway, for those who like to sit and people-watch.
(Side note: Whiskdom has a cheeky ring in English, but the translation doesn’t quite carry the same spark. I did wish the Chinese name had the same wit.)
Inside, white walls and warm wooden shelves are accented with blue striped awnings that make the displays look like a playful indoor market stall.
Clearly built to be Instagram friendly, but still comfortable enough to sit in for an unhurried brunch.
The menu is broad and playful. Bagels include Butter Chicken Shashuka ($18), Smoked Salmon Avo ($16), and Aloha Pulled Beef ($18).
Pastas run from Creamy Laksa ($22) to Chilli Crab Mac & Cheese ($20) and Seafood Tomyum ($22). Rice bowls feature Classic Beef ($16), Truffle Chicken ($16), and Teriyaki Salmon ($16).
The Creamy Laksa Pasta ($22) was actually pretty decent, with coconut base thick and creamy, clinging to every strand of spaghetti.
My friend said most laksa pastas tend to be dry, but this one kept the sauce silky and consistency just right.
While the spice was muted, the fragrance of laksa leaves and coconut still came through.
Sides keep things lively with Sambal Tater Tots ($10), Pulled Beef Tots ($12), and Buffalo Hot Wings ($12).
The Buffalo Hot Wings were tender, but lacked the punch you would expect from a proper plate of wings.
The cookies and brownies are what built the brand in the first place, and they remain the stars.
Cookies like Dark Cacao Speculoos, Berries and Crème, Crème Brûlée, and Chocolate S’mores are known to be chunky and gooey, with a crisp outer layer giving way to soft, molten centres.
Brownies are dense and rich, with flavours such as Oreo Peanut Butter, Speculoos Delight, Raspberry Dark Chocolate, and Hojicha.
Unapologetically indulgent, with melty sweetness.
Pair one with a coffee, sit outside under the shophouse balconies, and you will see why Whiskdom has its following.
